finally the 750 is ready to see some road... and that means getting insurance.

looking to get a ballpark figure for what it costs to have one of these insured. who are you SOHC4'ers insured with... and what's the damage?

i'm getting a quote from the broker that insures my '99 VFR (rider's plus) - but i'm not sure they'll be the best price... most companies don't seem to like dealing with the older bikes.

yeah... they came back with a dissapointing figure, as expected.

over $1200 for just liability.  and that's after applying the multi-bike discount.  i'm sure some if it is because of my wife as a secondary driver (she's still on her M2 license)... but i was hoping for a couple hundred under a thousand - not over.

suggestions?

thanks for the link. it actually routes back to the brokerage company my wife has her car insured through.

unfortuantely, we're both a couple years shy of the 'must be 30 years old or over' rule for the 'home for chrome' policy.

it's the 'must be this tall to ride' syndrome all over again.

it's really ridiculous, this policy... you could be 30 years old, have no experience on a bike whatsoever and be paying 1/3 of what i'd have to for the same bike with 10 years experience and no claims.

Can you get a collector plate for it?

Insured the wifes 73 this past summer here in BC for $101.00 for the year with the new plate.
Can't ride it to work or school on it though. "she don't work or go to school" so it worked out great for us.

I had a deal with Dalton group - didn't like them. They have only one girl to work with vintage bikes - She's always busy... With Micheal Kaspard things go much better (even cheaper then Dalton). With no experience in Canada + M2 i got $1600 rate for 1975 CB750F. Next year should be around $900. I dont have his number now. Can check at home.

we have government run insurance here in BC (ICBC).  My 750 and 500 are both about $650 each for a full year with only liability.

you might want to compare the exact coverage.

michael kaspard is a broker for jevco insurance.  it is more expensive, but the coverage is for a daily driver.

dalton timmis is a broker for aviva elite insurance.  it is classic bike insurance, like classic car insurance.  limited recreational use, not a daily driver.  might include mileage restrictions, like maybe 2500 km per year.

No more yankee comments on insurance rates, please, or you might get a bunch of defecting (-ive?) Canucks trying to run across the  border... hope the minutemen are ready!!
I'm also a non-vintage rider with a vintage bike in Ottawa, and ended up going through State Farm. They give a much better rate if you move a car over to them (saved $5/yr on car+truck) and got the 750 k8 insured for $660. (Married, no tickets or at-faults). Much better than Jevco/Kingsway quotes of $1200-1600.

without an appraisal Kingsway won't give me fire/theft on my 70 cb750.  I have it currently insured for 258.00 for the year, but if it is stolen or burns up, I am screwed.  The insurance is purely for my liability on the road.   However, I want the bike insured for theft, and would prefer not to have to wait until after I finish the restoration, but without the appraisal that will not happen.

The reason for the cheap rate is that I have a 99 Valkyrie with full coverage (900.00 per year), an 88 FZ600 that also costs 900.00 per year (and that is robbery), so they gave me a discount on the third bike as I am the only rider in the family. I think without the other bikes they were going to quote 500.00 to 600.00 per year.  Note: I am 51 and have been riding for 25 years, so I guess that counts for something.  If I was 25 and only at the start of my motorcycle license, I imagine it would be more.

But yeah, insurance in Ontario sucks.  Now I have the 69 cb750 and I am seriously thinking of just moving the plate between bikes and riding it.  I do not want to be insurance poor.  Some of the guys in the CVMG have between 10 and 40 bikes, what do they do I wonder.

ouch some one at riders plus must just started first they aint that expensive, when i had my sohc on rode they where charging me 600$ a year second they have a standing policy of max age of bike being 25 years so they dont even touch our bikes my baby hit 26 this year so when put back on road in few weeks looking for new broker, going try jevco i know people paying little for max coverage on expensive bikes, and ya in ontario they do punish you for being under 30 with abike.

I'm 36  and just have my M1 (toronto). Jevco quoted me at $801/year.  They said next year it will go down to $535/year assuming I have no claims.

Our Dollar is worth 4 cents less than the US$ I'm surprised your insurance is so low. Nice

Government insurance isn't always what it's cracked up to be either, the people quoting the rates in BC are quoting rates for liability only. If I had full coverage on a 800cc bike in BC it would cost more than a $60,000 SUV. I have every discount including over 65 and would pay around $650 for a 750cc bike in BC, liability only, no fire, theft, or collision. I don't consider that cheap!! In BC the type of bike has no bearing on basic insurance costs, only the displacement. What's good in BC is the "collector" plate system, for expample I pay $100 a year for my 73 CB750, that's basic liability only. I have a few bikes and get no discount for multiple bikes. Not compaining though when I read what you're paying in Ontario.
