Cb750 sandcast engine value
« on: November 03, 2014, 08:22:28 AM »
What would a frozen sandcast engine be worth. I came across one and would like to buy it- just don't  want to pay too much. Any ideas?

It depends on: engine #, if there's damage in the chain area (evidence of welding), and if it's complete with the original head and cylinders.

With the info given, it could be worth between $1 and $20,000.

As Greggo stated the price range could be all over the place. How complete is the engine?  Is it in a sandcast frame? Any pics? What's the vin?

$1,500 to $3K, probably the lower end.

That's just my opinion.  Others may think more or less.

Only the cases have serial numbers. All other parts can be swapped out.

Sandcast cylinders and heads are different that later ones.  There is extra metal for the 'extra' front head bolt on later cylinders, that is missing from earlier ones.  Heads and cylinders got that bolt in the mid teens (I think around 15,000).  The oil pan is different, so one will be needed to make a complete engine.  Most of the engine internals will swap right over.

Should have the cast oil pan,9 bolt clutch cover, smooth filter if lucky.. No bolt on front center of head..any of those missing will, lower the price..
