I would go to our local landfill where they take batteries for recycling and try to find a used one.

Or motorcycle shop.

I topped the cells off with distilled water and put it on a trickle charger.... However.... The caps keep popping off after hours of charging... Will this clear up with more charge time?

I only buy sealed batteries but aren't you suppose to remove the caps when charging?

I thought the whole idea of an AGM (GEL) skorpion battery was that it doesn't have cell caps? Mine doesn't.   ???

Not a battery expert but pretty sure there's a difference between agm and gel.... From my understanding they are made up of different solutions. One gelled electrolyte and  one liquid electrolyte... Sealed batteries can be opened (with caution.... Wear gloves and glasses.... Don't want to burn eyes or mouth)....

Under the seal strip on top are the cell caps.... They're in there

The whole point of the AGM (absorbed glass mat) type is to have just enough electrolyte to wet the mats between the plates.  This way it cannot spill as the mat holds all the electrolyte.  If you added water, you converted it to a wet cell battery and further, diluted (reduced) the acid strength that the manufacturer designed it to have.

Don't be surprised to have a weaker, lower capacity battery and one with a shortened useful life.  They are "sealed" to keep owners out of there and from meddling with the technology.  If you had a warranty, it should rightly be voided.

Is it possible for a sealed battery to go dry? Is it better to charge a battery if it's dry or to wet the plates? Btw I don't plan on using a warranty claim on a battery that's rightly passed.....I meddle with things but I'm not one of those people.

I suppose if you overcharged it a good long while.  Electrolysis will separate the Hydrogen and Oxygen from the electrolyte and it will vent to the atmosphere.

Is it better to charge a battery if it's dry or to wet the plates?
How do you know the plates were dry?

I shouldn't ever see a "water" level inside one of those.  The mats will simply be saturated with fluid.  It's like if you poured water on a towel flat on a table, just enough to thoroughly wet it but not have it pool so much that water can run off the table.

Is there maybe a small vent hole that is blocked causing a cap to pop?

Black caps.... Adjusted the voltage regulator to spec and wet the cells with a Epson salt and distilled water solution and bike has been firing up nice.... Also noticed my lights appear to be brighter as they seemed somewhat dim before. Voltage regulator was reading pretty low for 4000rpm.... (Below 14V).... Now everything seems to be in a nice working order.... Perhaps my leg can take a rest from kicking for a while.... Happy riding

what ever colour caps if you didn't have to peel back a tamper proof cover you might have a normal wet cell battery, are they easily got to and within sight without any tampering?
