I see a running bike and idles well, price seems fair to low for SoCal standard, but again that's between seller and buyer and market.

Keep in mind that 40 year old bike will need more maintenance.

I thought in the videos it sounded like metal clanking but I'm not sure.

Valves and cam chain may need to be adjusted.  Part of maintenance service

You negotiated a price with him, then went to see it and then didn't buy it?

What do you mean by "I thought in the videos it sounded like metal clanking but I'm not sure."

I agree it does sound a little top chatter but are you not the person that took the video?  Are you saying he sent you the video?  In other words, you weren't the one taking the video actually hearing it in person and are basing the noise on the video?

That is all correct. I'm g going to look at it this week. In planning on buying it and actually going to deliver it to my dad the same day with a big bow. It's just easier to give it to him now then hide it in my garage over the winter.

$2000-$2700 seems like a reasonable price anywhere in that range. Paints looks nice, bike looks complete and relatively unmolested. Seat good and not torn. I assume gauges are working and look good. If it runs and rides alright then you're looking at typical going over everything and doing any neglected maintenance but price doesn't seem out of line.

Jmo, But were it me and i had the cash, I'd nail it before someone else does.
The originals are only going up in price. That one is a good example, and will be fairly
easy to bring back to stock, if that's what you're intention is of course.
Mine was in just about the same condition as that one when I bought it in 1998.
I figured I'd just ride mine till it died, and assumed that parts were probably hard or nearly impossible to find. Then, i got a computer and discovered the wonderful world of Ebay. Things started snow balling after that, and I couldn't stop. Once one of these gets in your blood, you can't get it out. If that one runs without major issues as is, I'd suspect you'll be happy with it. Check for rust in the tank, and for oil leaks from the cylinder head area. Warm it to operating temp and ride it. Hope it meets your expectations for a 40 yr. old bike. A really nice gesture for your dad. My previous bike, a red '75 cb 750, I used as partial trade in allowance towards a brand new 1987 escort wagon. The car dealer gave me a whopping $350.00, and the bike was sold to one of the salesmen at the ford dealer, before it left the parking spot I parked it in. Twenty two years later, and not looking for a bike, A co worker told me about this one...Chained and pad locked in a neighbor's front yard. The price was 600.00.
We got him down to 450.....and so it goes. 8) A shameless display of pride. But it's fun, and I aint getting rid of it. :) i got 3 bikes, but this one is my favorite.

Nope fully running. Only problems is the seat is bad and the strayer button is broken. He said he had been kickstarating it for 2 years. Not digging the maroon though.

Not trying to be picky. Going to look at this other bike tonight. After more searching my dad may actually look he the maroon. You certainly don't see many of them.

Usually the bikes with the fairings were owned by older guys and not beat to death racing light to light. They usually need a new headlight bucket and or the bulb and mounting ring and turn signal stems.  Member Tews mentioned the 1975 bike has been for sale for a long time this summer, nobody jumped on it and his initial $2700.00 asking price is high for the Great Lakes region and the $2000.00 is really no bargain around here. If there is dickering room on the 74 Boss Maroon with a starting price of $800.00 that would be getting my interest.

I'll be sure to give the contact info for the one I'm not buying. I'm leaning towards the 74 as its far closer to me and had lower miles but we will see.

Well the guy was not willing to go any lower than 750 but here is some better pictures. It is leaking oil pretty heavily from beneath the oil tank. Seat is completely destroyed. Had mac 4 into 2 pipes installed. Inside of tank is very rusty.

The oil leak is probably very simple to fix - cracked hose or lose connection or such.

Gas tank rusty inside - easy to clean, with bit of luck it will not have pinholes, but even those can be fixed at home.

Seat - used one about $100.

Overall not a bad deal, but nothing you really want to deliver as a gift.

It would not be a turn key like the other one and will need some dollars and time invested. As mentioned earlier removing the fairing means headlight and turn signal parts, probably new tires, seat or cover, etc etc.   Just buy both of them than you don't have to worry about choosing   :D
