helmets...a great read
« on: August 01, 2005, 12:50:47 PM »
This article from Motorcyclist magazine is not only an eye opener about helmets but one of the best articles I've ever read about anything concerning riding.

You'll have to 'cut and paste' the address. I'm not able to post links with my current arrangement.

WOW  :o

That is a serious read. Very informative. So much for going snell. Now I dont feel bad with going for a cheap "plastic" helmet since it did just as good as the expensive snells.

And after your brain is injured, even more damage can occur. When the brain is bashed or injured internally, bleeding and inflammation make it swell. When your brain swells inside the skull, there's no place for that extra volume to go. So it presses harder against the inside of the skull and tries to squeeze through any opening, bulging out of your eye sockets and oozing down the base of the skull. As it squeezes, more damage is done to some very vital regions

Now that's descriptive! Very informative article, thanks for posting the link.

howbout them melons.

one point about the snell standard/test:  in a car, with or without a rollcage, it's entirely conceivable that the noggin could get repeatedly bonked in the same spot, in a rollover, for instance.

hence, it's a sensible standard for your chapter of the Pimpin Roadracers League to adopt.

now i feel better about letting my pillion beeyotches use the DOT lid while i cruise in style and comfort in my Snell....

We haven't talked about helmets for at least a month, so here we are again.

I remember that article when it came out, and found it very informative. Not enough to change my helmet buying habits, but informative anyway.

Hahaha, beat that dead horse some more! ;D

I didn't change what I bought, but it definitely made me think about it a bit more. I at least tried a Z1R on my head, which I never, ever would've done in the past.

Is it just me or was that a really long article? But the bottomline is that they should make the pavement a bit softer right? And maybe don't crash your head into it in the first place.

Wouldn't be as hard wearing!
