Zinc plater ????

I am looking for a new plater due to changes with my previous contact…some one who does complete clean and plating for a fair price and good turn around time..

When you say complete clean what do you mean?  I think most would put the parts into acid which very quickly strips the zinc less than a 60 seconds.  If it is caked in grease I am not sure how that would go over.  Zinc does not stick to grease, or oil of any kind even finger prints will show through.  Proper handling is key.

I would not want to take the chance.  For me I can put parts into my ultrasonic cleaner and get rid of grease without much effort.

You could always buy a Caswell or Eastwood kit and diy.

I normally electric wire brush, degrease with old petrol and then get professional to do zinc plating.

This lot cost £30 in UK and took a couple of weeks.

There is a zinc plater in Michigan, if that's close enough. He was referred to me by Brown's Chrome Plating (the best) in KY. Ill gete the name if you're interested.

Good to know because I have thought about doing this, a few times. I will tell you that as I do it, powdercoating becomes easier and better as time goes on. Maybe the same for plating?

I do powdercoating and experience does help.  With platting it is just alot of manual work.  Very tedious.  Your whole operation has to be setup to do it.  The tank professionals use are very large and take up lots of space.  You got to do tons of it to make any money.

It is so tedious that is probably why no one here offers it as a service.

There are fewer and fewer platers around due to the environmental laws. Disposing of the waste has become very costly.  Powder coating has become popular since it is less controlled for now. A lot of plating is being done in the thrid world whee the laws are lax, The quality is also pretty lax.

I just came across a guy on Long Island's website that I bookmarked yesterday.  He mainly does work on Harley but Im sure he likes money and work no matter what the make of bike is.
