Basic Questions for Multi-CB Owners..
« on: October 05, 2006, 07:44:10 AM »
Hi All,

For those who have both a SOHC CB750 and a SOHC CB550:
Are both bikes about the same size physically?  Is the 750 bigger overall?  Or is it mostly just the motor is bigger?

For those who have multiple SOHC CB750s (of different years, or at least an early one and a late one):
Are the frames of SOHC CB750's interchangeable, so long as you stick with a K bike, so that a CB750K7 frame would work with engine and bodywork from a K1?

Just curious..

My 750K1 is just slightly longer than my 550K2, but not much.
The seat height is the same on both.

The 500/550 was shorter than the 750, both in overall length and wheelbase.  It was also shorter in the seat by 1/2 inch.  The frame design is different as well, allowing head removal while the engine was in the frame.  The 750 is just a bigger bike.

The K7 and K8 frames were F frames as I recall, but K0 through K6 should be interchangeable.

According to the stats listed on sohc4.us, the 550 seat is 0.2" higher than the 750K1.  The 550 wheelbase is 55.3", while the 750K1 is 57.3".

All I know is My neighbor's K2 is 32" at the seat, as is my F1.  My brothers K0 is 31.5".  All bikes are stock.

I have a 78 550K and a 78 750F.

Without looking at the spec's the "feel" of it is that the 750 is a taller(at least that is what my short legs tell me), and noticeably heavier bike. It also feels longer but it is not an issue. However, the performance is really stepped up on the 750. It is a real hog to handle at slow speeds (due to the extra weight) but once up to speed is fine.

The 550 feels like a sports car compared to the 750.

Time is short!

Mostly on topic - anyone know if the frames at the downtubes are the same so that the  "cb750 Vetter fairing mounting bracket"  will fit all of the 750 frames?   yes, I would like to put a fairing on my bike 8)
