So I bought an 850 triple cylinder yammy. Priced OK and close to home. She cleaned up ok, minor scuffs and no rust, nice stock exhaust thank goodness. The battery even pretends to charge.
I was feeling cocky after the easy cb400F turnaround and the tank was clean and empty so I turned off the petcocks and dumped in a gallon and a half of gas. I went for the seafoam and when I got back it was raining gas. Left side, right side, middle side, back side. I grabbed buckets, oil change tubs, towells, trays, cups and funnels and gas cans.
Now I realize the petcocks have 3 positions, none of which is off. It finally went on recerve. I had to leave the garage doors up and come in the house. I hope no one discards a lit cigarette in the back driveway tonight. There is a rag or two out there that could go off.

I'm glad you caught it before anything bad happened. I had a garage fire some years ago that almost burnt my garage down and I don't want to go through that mess ever again, the actual cause of the fire was never determined but since then any time gas or any combustible gets spilled on the floor I get real paranoid about it and make sure everything is cleaned up before I close the garage up.

My advice to you is to get rid of that horrible machine as quickly and profitably as possible. :)

That's the story of Larry's whole house.  Mike was tuning with the tank off and left it in the garage. Pilot light set it off.  Serious bad news, but Larry did do a pretty good job with putting together a lot nicer place on the lot instead of the mid sixties tract home.

That is the plan. I noticed parts on Ebay are cheap, indicating to me no one wants them. it's a beautiful example of a yucky bike.

At work I was always the guy carrying the gas can back outside or stopping someone doing something dumb. I saw a guy once cutting rebar with a gas saw and throwing the sparks on a 5 gallon can. Holy cow we could have all went up. Once I was welding an elevated pipeline, there was a pallet leaned against the wall below me and someone yelled at me to stop. They had hidden their gas can behind the pallet. 5P welding rod raining sparks. I'm lucky to be able tell that story.

It runs on the IV bottle but I think it cranks too hard. The timing has to be off on at least one cylinder. I'm weary of smelling like gasoline.

The petcocks seem to work now, my local shop advises to add a small valve after each petcock for parking use. Saves lots of wasted oil and gas.
