front caliper set up/adjuster spring.
« on: November 09, 2014, 02:49:09 PM »
Hi, to many of you a easy question but my 2 workshop manuals do not show where a washer should go.
The washer I am talking about is listed with the set up adjuster spring/threaded screw/nut.
Should it go under the lock nut on the fork leg (outside) or between the spring and the inner face of the fork leg.
So far on the 550k2 I have fitted 2 new tyres, taper head bearing kit and will be sorting out
the wiring. So really want to do all the work correctly.
Any help would be great.
Cheers Gary

Although some like them, I never use them,  or at least if I have to remove it, it stays off.
When a bike has sat and brake is sticking, i like to bonk the caliper inward. With a soft hammer or wood drift.
I am not sure but I think the adjuster being in place may make this more difficult to do..added pita......

Most people i have talked to say to take it off as it doesnt do anything. I took it off my CB450 which shares its brakes with the CB750 and there is no difference either way

Are you guys saying you don't run the spring at all? Or just the washer?

I ran the springs somewhat lose, not really the clearance the manual asks for.

Somebody here commented on having to pump handle twice to get brake operate without springs - it can make a difference in a tight spot.
