Leaky carbs
« on: October 14, 2006, 05:38:41 PM »
So, my numbers 1 and 2 carbs are leaking like none other. It looks like it's coming from the float bowl gasket area, but I JUST put in new gaskets. :'(

Do the bowls on your carbs have clips holding them in place? Mine do. One thing I might do is "tack" the new gasket in place with a sealant. I spot it on in 4 or 5 places so it remains in place when I push it up to the carb. Once the bowl is against the carb body I wiggle it into place until it is seated. You should be able to feel it. I then hold it where it is and rotate the clip and snap it into place.
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

yup

Could be that the bowl isn't seated all the way.  My #3 leaked like crazy all the time, and when I pulled the bowl to check the gasket I noticed it was cocked toward the front of the bike.  Repositioned it and, voila!  No more leak.  BTW, welcome to the SOHC4 hotspot!

If the bowls are screw on or spring clamp types then you need to take them off and reseat them

scrape clean both mating surfaces you are trying to push together, then make sure the seal/gasket is positioned correctly...

the tiniest bit of gasket sealer on both surfaces should also help..... :)

I just finished typing this then noticed the new post... sorry to say it twice, let us know the result  :)
