CB750 Tach on a 550
« on: November 12, 2014, 08:12:12 PM »
I'm planning on swapping a 650 cam into my 550 eventually and I know I need a 650 or 750 tach as well and I ran across this on ebay tonight

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1975-Honda-CB750-CB-750-Tachometer-Tach-Gauge-/161266489738?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item258c3b598a&vxp=mtr

The green face matches my 550 almost perfectly it seems, but will it directly mount on the stock gauge brackets of my 550?

I think you need 650 tach as it has 9200 redline.  Need 650 tach drive gear.  Or go completely modern gps stuff with no cables

750 'should' have the same drive ratio if I remember right. Red line is all what you make of it really.

Yeah they're both the same drive ratio (4:1) and I've got the 650 drive gear to go with the cam, just looking into tach options. Is is possible to switch the gauge faces out? Like take the face off my 550 tach and put it on a 750/650 gauge?

Yeah you can do that stuff. Look to the right on this webpage, cb750faces.com lol

Just remember you can change the face but the sweep of the needle is still through that pre-set range. Just because you put 11k face on there, it still only sweeps to 9500, get what I mean?

That doesn't make sense to me. I mean if the bike is revving at 10k then the needle will show 10k no matter what, right? (Provided the ratio of the tach and the ratio of the drive gear match)

Saying the same thing differently, that's what I meant.
