I love that!   I want a vintage Duc but that $6500 price tag is stopping me.

The first bike I ever owned was on of those. I loved it dearly, and it was good on the road and off road.
Being one cylinder it vibrated like hell. I finally had to put niail polish on the threads of every bolt and screw. Loctite was not generally available.
I know i will take some crap for this, but I could beat Honda 350's with it.

My next bike was a KZ440 which was very quick!

I had to laugh when I read Bobby's posts, he went from a Ducati 350 to a Kawasaki 440 and preferred the Kawasaki, I had the choice of a Ducati 450 Silver Shotgun or a Yamaha TX500 (much like Bobby's 440, and equally worthless now) and after test riding the Ducati, chose the Yamaha.

I saw a similar Ducati go for $20K recently, and decided that there really is "one born every minute............" ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Pictures and video from Motor Cyclist here: http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/news/2015-ducati-scrambler-first-look?src=SOC&dom=fb&dom=mcy&loc=hpslider7&lnk=IMG

Great looking and $8,600. I predict Ducati is going to sell a #$%*load of these.

I saw a similar Ducati go for $20K recently, and decided that there really is "one born every minute............" ;D

I found that cold. I had never even considered riding a bike. A fellow I knew knocked up his girlfriend and needed money quick. So, for $100 bucks I had a bike. I paid another $25.00 to some Inusrance company so  could get plates.  I ran around with the little bastard on all kind of trails trepassing on public and private lands. Pieces fell off or were knocked off daily. The speedo and headlight combo came off in an early crash, so I have no idea how fast the thing could go.

I left for active duty and the Gov't focused on teaching me another skill. The little Duc sat until I returned.  The motor was seized, so I rebuilt it and rode it around some more with no turnsignals, horn or mirrors(I was trained to glance behind me anyway).

The Military gave me a license that included motor scooters, so NY issued me a Drivers license with an MC endoresement when I got out. Out in Nevada the fighter Jocks had their bikes and I borrowed one now and then. Damn they were quick bikes. Almost all of them were CB750s.

I drifted around a bit, and then traveled around a lot for my job so I never rode it much and the Old Man needed room in his garage, it disapeared one day. The old man was never big on explaining.

I got married a the tender age of 30 and bought a house.  A few blocks from my Hosue a KZ440 sat with a for sale sign. I offered the guy $100 and we settled on $120 if it would start. I rode it home at 20 mph which was as fast as it would go with the choke on. The Wife threw a fit, but she got over it in a year or so.

I sorted out the carbs rode that thing around all over the place including commuting to work. I had a horn, mirrors, turn signals and I pinned the speedo at 80mph.

Then a guy offered me a bike he had for 19 years and only rode for 2 years. I went to his place and there it was. I pushed down on the kicker and it moved so the motor wasn't seized. $150.00 and I flat bedded bike home.

This will be my last bike. It is all I need. Total purchase price of all the bikes I have owned. $370. ;D ;D ;D

That's pretty good going Bobby, I bought my first bike (a Yamaha Omaha 80) when I was 9 years old and I've probably owned at least one bike for every year I've lived since. Apart from my CB750F that I bought new in 1978 and my Triumph Rocket III that I bought to help my brother out of a jam, most of my bikes have been old beasts that just needed some love. I'd hate to think how much money I've spent on this obsession over the years, but I've enjoyed the heck out of them........... ;D

I could have bought new bikes. I could buy one now. I explain to people that Motorcycles are a Hobby, just one of a few I have. When you take on a hobby you need to understand the different facets of the hobby.  When I took up shooting I made my own gunleather and reloaded my own ammo.

Since cars are my main mode of transportation I lease them. I like high end models and don't want to lay in the driveway fixing them anymore.

I still have fond memories of my Ducati. Somehow you never forget your first.  ;D ;D

Yeah, I've done the "new bike thing" once, but never had any real desire to buy a new bike either Bobby, I'm more than happy to buy used, even if it means I have to get my hands dirty. While bikes were my main mode of travel when I was younger, if one of my bikes needs to be off the road for any time now that's no problem as they're not my main mode of travel either.

I've had "company cars" for the last 12 years so I don't need to worry about forking out for maintenance, fuel, (over 100 bucks per tank of diesel in my new Ford Ranger) registration or insurance, and as they're leased vehicles, I get a new one every couple of years, which is nice.

Guns? I've given all mine away now, except my 100+ year old Shotgun and Civil War 1861 Snyder Springfield .50 Cal rifle. I can legally own both without a license, and they're fun to shoot.

I certainly don't miss the Yamaha Omaha 80 I bought for 5 bucks when I was 9, but I wouldn't mind the Ducati 900SS I owned back in the 1980's, mechanically it was a POS, coming from the factory when their quality control was at an all time low but it was a beautiful looking thing for sure. By comparison, my Iron head Sporty was a much better bike. I'd have it back again, in a heartbeat Cheers, Terry, ;D
