I never really took many pictures of this bike but found this one to send to the PO who knows the bike as a chopper.  I call it the 'faux fiddy' because it's a '71 made more to look  like a '68, I think.

I found the pipe and tank at a shop for a good deal, and the seat off e-bay. The forks were on a parts bike I had, they were clean. The fork ears were square and I spent a whole weekend tapping them back to round.  The paint on them is rattle can, toreador red from O'reiley's. It matched the vintage repaint on the tank pretty well, there's a big spot of it on a chip right in the middle of the tank there. (see it?)

Here's the Craigslist picture I responded to, this was the pretty side.  Actualy I don't think the ad had a picture, but this was e-mailed to me. There was a fresh new  crease running lengthwise along the whole starboard side of the tank.  I was told they had just recently  dropped it on the rail of a trailer.

It only took about a month to put back to normal because I didn't have to go to e-bay for anything but fork seals. Nice having a parts bike.

Oh yeah, I had to change out the Kickstand and I think I had to find a center stand for it.

If anyone is doing a rake on their bike I still have the longer kickstand which will be necessary, pm me. I will never use it and would trade it. Tiller bars might get used for a stand if someone doesn't grab them.


Forks springs were for looks, I don't think they ever moved. I was thinking I might saw them short and use them to make a roller.

It was freaking butt ugly, and I had to make a 5 point turn around just to get it out of the yard it was in.  I don't get it.

I had to find the owner two back to title it, his advice was it's dangerous, don't ride it.    He was talking about two nortons, Two years later I saw him, and  his Guy still had them, we ended up dragging home.


I  need to put the stuff back that makes it run again for sure (carbs, coils). Recently I flatted my other bike so  wheel came off and now  it's up on that center stand I was telling about until I change a tire.

Not sure why the parts bike didn't have one, I'll have to look.

Okay here's more pics. Still not the bike at it's best, but at least it's not a rediculous chopper. Tags are expiring this month, so I have to switch insurance to theis bike and get the tag.

I put a new tire on it's rim. Sprokets were shot , but I have a pile of sprockets from the swap meet, and as much as I thought they were the right thing, the bolt pattern is about a 1/4 inch smaller. Once the CNC'c  on line, holes will be where they need to be.

I found a Michelin that had plenty of life left in it.  It is too big for the rim and with the heavy duty tube it was a pain in the but to mount, but it aired up fine, no holes.  It will be interesting to see how it handles with more modern tires.

Hopefully this bike will be on the road in a month.
