so glad to not find these posts here
« on: October 04, 2006, 11:04:21 AM »
while looking up some CBR600 hurricane info--friend just bought one, and we started working on it last night--i came across this post.  so happy that these don't pop up here.

Quote
Is it possible to wheelie an 87 cbr600? Theyre like 400lbs and only like 85hp...or something along those lines...If so how would you wheelie? You HAVE to use the clutch right? at what rpms in what gear would you pull up? would you pull up or let the bike do the work? would you rev up the rpms and then let the clutch out fast or slow? Once up is it hard to balance and control? How to come down saftely?

I know its very dangerous, i dont plan on ever wheelieing on the street...but Im interested in learning how to do one just to mess around in the empty parking lot down the street from me.

the best is the disclaimer at the end.....he's only going to try it in the safe environment of an empty parkinglot at the end of his street.

right, ok.

actually, the funniest part, is they have a forum called "Tricks and Stunts"

"Impress that girl in the car at the stoplight"

That sounds like a recipe for second hand embarassment.

were you to post "hey, check out the photos of the wheelie i did on my girlfriend's VFR800" that's cool.
or, "hey, i did a wheelie, it was cool."  that's ok too.

this guy has no clue what he's doing, he coppied some stats off another site about power and weight, and is trying to kill himself.

that smacks of jackassery to me.

Wheelies are dangerous and I would never do one.

I never encourage reckless behavior.

Hell these ol' lead scooters we ride won't even do a wheelie........ ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

I work for NASA... that type of behavior is definitely not encouraged around here... except by the "Security Police" it gives them something to do besides direct traffic :P

The scary thing about this person (kid?) with a cbr600 is, in my opinion- if they're asking these kinds of questions, they obviously have VERY LITTLE time on a motorcycle, and shouldn't be trying that stuff at that stage in the first place.  I honestly think that any rider with enough time in the saddle would know the answers to these questions- as you come to know how much power your bike can provide at a given instance from experience, how it handles, etc.

Arkansas?

Not much impressing needed if the girl he's trying to impress is his sister. Or auntie mom.

Perhaps this guy should talk to Kellen Winslow Jr. of the Cleveland Browns about practicing wheelies in a parking lot.

I thought she'd pranged the VFR?

Yes she did... day after last thanksgiving.  while she was being mended i rebuilt the viffer as well.  sorry i don't have any pics of what it looked like crashed.  it was pretty messed up.  every piece of plastic was broken... some of it i replaced, some of it i fiberglassed, luckily no frame/fork bending and no engine damage so it was pretty straight forward.  the best part was when it was sitting at the junkyard we went to start it up and all sorts of debris would shake off from inside the cowls every time it rev'd.  the worst part was immediately after the reconstruct we took our trip to vegas... on the way there some dumbass swiped the front right of it with his minivan!  wanna hear the kicker?  he parked right next to it and got in and out of the van right next to it before running it over.  not much damage though and progressive gave her another couple hundred for it.

if you guys never got to read the vegas ride report please take a look.
