Topic: Hey 550 guys - DCC coils ?

I usually play with 750s, but I'm building up a 550 for a buddy of mine.   Sat outside for a very long time, so the plug wires coming off the coils are hard as a frozen rope, loose at the actual coil and cut too short to use.

I had always assumed that the coils for 750s and 550s were the same.  After reading and looking a bit this morning, I've found that they are different part numbers.   Something about the internal windings - over my head.

I've used repop coils from Dime City on my CB750s with good success.   5k coils with 5k plug caps.

To me it seems like the 550 likes 5 ohm coils with 5 ohm plug caps -  Caps: VB05F & XB05F
Any of you 550 guys running those on your 550 ?   If not, what are you using ?

i got the same from somone in england...they are crap...in vet kondisions i hear hov the sparks jumps aut of the vhite backside..and over to the metal frame bolts...and the bike run at 2/3 cylenders...
in dry veather it ran better..but not perfekt

i endet up use some old coils from a 400 four....cut in to the veld point and solder nev vire on

but all others then this coils vill do the job...

Apperantly 3 ohm coils over tax the charging system on 550's so 5 ohm for me.
I'm using Dyna coils and they work great.

If you want to upgrade the entire system I've got Section Bobbin coils and a sweet optical ignition that works awesome on 550 engines.
The coils are rated at 120,000 volts which is about 4 times the rating of a standard coil.
