Way to go Brent. Denis Curtis of CMR posted some great pictures and the following summary of your race season:

In the fall of 2013, Brent approached CMR Racing Products to carry out extensive modifications on the main frame of his Honda CB 550; he wanted to eliminate flex and to make the bike handle more responsively. He also asked CMR to produce one of our very strong swing-arms to maximize results potential from the excellent engines he builds. The results speak for themselves.

Brent ran a flawless racing season in the VRRA Period 2 Middleweight Production Class. He won all four races and became 2014 Class Champion.
Brent was so impressed with the performance of his bike that he entered a more competitive class on the same bike. This class was the VRRA Period 3 Lightweight Championship; Brent was competing against more modern bikes with more performance potential than his. Brent won this Championship also in 2014. CMR is proud to be associated with this fine racer.

I don't think Nakamoto-san promised him an incentive ride on a factory RC213V, like Alex Marquez got to ride with his brother.

I think it's quite impressive that Brent took on an even more competitive class and won the championship. 

Brent: we've all seen Denis' gorgeous swingarm.  What kind of frame bracing mods did he perform on your bike?

Brent,

Just talked to Denis Curtis yesterday about your racing exploits.  I didn't know you guys went back a ways.  In addition to having an amazing frame, swingarm and motor, your bike required a rider with skill and balls to best more powerful and more modern bikes. 

What's next? Defending your title next year or something else?

Yes Don, I met Denis in 76 when we lived in Vancouver, BC and we both raced. We hooked up again at Shannonville race track in Ontario 5-6 years ago and he was back frame building full time. He broke his back in a bad crash and decided he'd had enough of the racing deal! He's had a storied past in motorcycle sport.

My bike was awesome all season, I'm comfortable with it. I think I still have a little left so I'll continue racing. It's been a joy not having to build a whole new motorcycle this offseason, crashing sucks bad. I really enjoy the engine work, there is so much to learn, ask Mike!

I found this picture from Mosport this year. This is P3 light, my bump up class. Two CB550's, two fast RD's in the front row, then GPZ's galore amongst others. The 19x bike on pole is Karston Illg of Framecrafters fame. He's an amazing rider & his bike is highly developed. I finished 2nd, just couldn't hang with him.

Great picture, Brent! I was trying to figure out what Illg is running there.  The RDs on the front row are no pushover.  Full grid -- that is so cool!!  Good luck next year.  Keep us posted -- maybe you can do updates  for next year's season on a thread on this sub-forum.

You've known Denis for some time now.  He's all class.

Mick, that's Phil and he's a big boy alright but he's first class all the way.

Karsten rides a Yamaha RD400, but not just any RD. It sports a special Framecrafters frame and the bike has been contested and developed for several years. It's a great machine and Karsten has lots of experience on it. In the P4 lightweight final he and the eventual winner set blistering times for lightweights. Man the guy is fast. I got him back though in the P2 final and beat him on his Framecrafters Formula 750 Trident. He was probably worn out!!

I remember the shop in Richmond.. Saw a cool Vincent monoshock with triple discs he had built. You could get a chopper gooseneck frame from him,  or a drag frame back then, and flattrack. Frames. Wish I still had the pricelist from that shop..

The Drixton frames CMR/Denis Curtis makes are gorgeous works of chrome-moly art.  Brent's frame uses a similar construction, eliminating the inherently weak pressed steel backbone.

Dennis while on a dyno I always wanted to pull the filters and jet accordingly to see what kind of power those filters rob. There is only 45mm between the bellmouth & filter backside. I'm sure I could gain something without them.....but I'd rather run a filter. I've seen all manner of corruption sucked though carburetors. These are dual sock from www.ramair-filters.com.

Don the calipers are Brembo F05's. They are "period correct" for my class and use 32mm opposed pistons. I followed turboguzzi's lead on these. They are light, stronger than stock and have good choice of available pads.
