Widest rear wheel option for '78 CB550K?
« on: September 21, 2019, 02:01:07 PM »
I've been looking at some new wheels for my 78 CB550K and got to wondering if there's a way to run a wider than stock back wheel?

If not, will a set of Lester mags off a CB750F fit my 550K? (another remember has a set and if they'll work I'd love to have them)

I'm not looking for anything crazy, but I'd love a tire with a little more meat on it out back.

Thoughts?

FYI: The rear outside width is 3 7/8" and the bead is 3"
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

And the set he has listed is for a 750F, meaning it's for a rear disc brake. You'd have to come up with a way to run a rear master cylinder and caliper.

Honestly, your best bet is to look on eBay for a 550 wheel that's been laced to a Harley 16" hoop. Common mod from "back in the day".
If you want a 17" or 18" wheel, you're looking at buying the hoop and lacing it yourself.
