Engine dies
« on: October 04, 2006, 03:06:03 PM »
Bike ran great - I took off the pipes to polish them, put them back on with new gaskets and now it dies as soon as I put it in gear.  It idles fine.  It could be coincidental, but I sort of suspect not.  The seal is tight on the pipes. Can anyone give me an idea what the heck I may have done?

Possible clutch adjustment?  Unscrew the barrel adjuster on the clutch cable.  A coupla turns should help.  If not, A coupla more turns.

Is this the same bike that was having electrical problems and would die after 2 miles? intermitent horn, signals, worse when highbeam was on? Did you get all that sorted out? New battery? Charging system ok?

I can't see how remounting your exhaust could cause your current problem.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

Got the electrical issues sorted out - faulty ignition switch was the problem. Replaced that.

It does sound like a clutch problem, though...

Did you have to disconnect/move the clutch cable while you were wrestling around with the exhaust? Possible that it got knocked out of adjustment.
