Anyone planning to build a dragbike for the 2015 season???
« on: November 21, 2014, 08:05:44 am »
Just a curious question for my fellow forum members: With all the posting that's been going on leading up to, and after the Man Cup drag race this past weekend, is there anyone out there planning to build an SOHC dragbike for the 2015 race season. Not necessarily to run in the Man Cup series, but maybe at your local dragstrip- in the USA or any other country.

Lets hear your plans and share pictures of what you're building.

I am in the process of building two bikes, one for me and one for my dad.  For now we are looking at going to the local track which is 1/8 mile but is good because these bikes had been set up to run 1/8. We bought member  jdnova's bikes last month.  Two rollers but I have to build two motors, one threw a rod(MTC aluminum) and the other at some point dropped a valve so two motors in the works if I can round up the cash.  I just received two sets of 72mm MTC pistons next big item will be a good set of rods.  One of the motors will be sporting an RC head and RC steel rods that came if one of the many boxes of parts.   ;)Chassis for the most part are good to go but the motors will be the big hang up if the money doesn't come in fast enough.

I'm in complete rebuild mode. Got my Turbo bike stripped down and in the works on rebuild. Considering building another drag bike in the meantime. Need to start buying a few things and trading some parts I have..

The biggest I can get my hands on. I have a really good stock motor out back that id like to throw some pistons in, have Jay or Kenny do the bore, Have Mike Reick port a head, try to get my hands on the best carbs I can get, probably a webcam,.. if possible id like to get my hands on a complete Drouin or ATP kit to passify my forced induction dreams..

have an idea of using my set up now, just swap the motors until I get the fuel injection squared away

TREY: Going down to my sons TROY shop and put the 10mm stroker BUSA all back together = had to take a garage lien on bike to get title.   72" , auto shift, slider = not a SOHC BUT WILL GIVE YOU the ride of your life.....  It's not fair to drive 14 hours, spend dayz at the track and NOT GET THE MOTOR RUNNING, this bike will run, push button start.  Hold the left hand rear brake and roll the throttle out on that last bulb [ DOHC SUZUKIMATIC ]  will bring the practice tree for you to practice.

As many already know I recently built a dragbike form scratch in an effort to make the Mancup race at Valdosta, I was unable to make the trip this time. However I am still working on the bike (at a slower pace).

I have plans to build a turbo engine for the bike (my original plan). Over the winter months if time and space allows, I may possibly assemble a second roller.

Hi , just seen this . I'm hoping to have my replica of an early seventies sohc Pro Stocker up and running in 2015. It's taken me two years to get it from a really tatty 75 F1 to a reasonable copy of a K. I'm still currently trying to source Hi Po parts for the motor .

Greg, I'm suffering from withdrawal, too! I sold my dragbike a year ago and bought a street bike, I thought it would be fine, but I am really missing it. I just want something that is simple to race, if there is such a thing... But don't have the money to build anything right now. :(

If anyone is interested in a reasonably priced set of leathers. Now might be the time to take a look at these from MPS. I've purchased several sets from them.

Dragracer: I didn't build it for the drags, I wanted it to be a streetbike again for my personal use. But during its reconstruction I've developed a condition that means I won't be riding anymore. Originally a K2, it's now an 888cc, with one of Mike's heads on it, OS intake valves, a puny WebCam 41, Mikuni VM29s, APE bottom end, big rods, undercut trans, Marshall pipe (maybe not the best choice for drags). I reduced the rear rim to a 3.5 x 17", carries a 140/17 tire,

Even though its in street trim, could turn some decent times. Had I been able to ride, I was hoping to drag race it a bit for old times sake.

Anyway, I've got a friend (happens to have two WLSR, one with him as pilot) http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/news/rayce-team-sets-land-speed-records-bonneville   who almost got it broken in before bad weather hit. When the drag strip reopens (Lucas Oil Raceway) in April we look to run at the Wednesday night Run what you Brung events. At least once. If we like it, maybe more. Rick admits no experience since the 60s at dragracing, but he has roadraced quite a bit and he's not afraid to turn it up. Says he's got a reaction time simulator.

Looking forward to it.   :D

Sorry to hear you won't be able to throw a leg over your bike, but it seems you've got a good jokey to take it for a few runs down the dragstrip. Hopefully that one pass will turn into many more and we'll all eventually cross paths somewhere racing these SOHC's.

I hope to finish the restoration of my old buddys cb stroker motor  drag bike. Unfortunately it's at the end of a list of jobs that pay for my racing habit. There's a funny car to recage, move the seat up and front half, a dragster that was crushed by a large A frame hoist and my own car that my daughter drives. Then the bikes that i'm hoping to fix up and sell.
