DIY Copper Plating? Any Success and how rugged is the finish?
« on: November 24, 2014, 11:13:25 AM »
I've seen multiple videos of people copper plating with vinegar and "root kill". It seems to yield decent results, but I wonder how strong it is. Can I do some bolts with it and still torque them without it ruining the finish?

I saw one video and the guy used battery acid and copper ground wire as the anode powered by a 12v battery charger.  I don't think it would hurt the finish any more than torquing zinc bolts.  If you keep taking it apart and putting it together that could be a problem.

Dont know what root kill, is but a few pennies or copper wire in vinegar, and bolts tossed in will get a thin copper coating..
