Genuine moly grease for engine bearings?
« on: July 22, 2015, 11:58:42 PM »
So I'm rebuilding a cb350F and I have all new connecting rod and crankshaft bearings based on mic readings. My manual informs me to install with either molybdenum disulfide or engine oil. Should I use moly for fresh bearings?

Also should the bearings have any engine oil on their backside or would that cause bearing slippage?

Engine oil is fine if you'll be running the motor pretty soon.  If it'll sit for a bit, use an assembly lube with moly.

Oil isn't necessary behind the shells, but won't cause slippage either, the little tabs on the bearing shells keep them from moving once assembled.

Yeah thanks for the confirmation. A friend of mine who flips vets told me a little thin layer of oil behind the shell helps a little for mating case halves.
