Want to install Shift sensor on cb750
« on: November 28, 2014, 07:36:50 PM »
OK so I am currently working on a 78 CB750, Newbie intro post coming soon. have great plans for this bike. anyways, searching on ebay i've come across this thing linked below. it says compatible with 71-77 models, but judging based on the printing of the box, were these available before the 78 model was out? were there any differences in the shifting linkage and barrel selector that would make this unuseable on the 78 model? I'm going to be tearing the motor apart and rebuilding. I will link my project thread as soon as i make it below :) Thanks guys

I was looking into this at one time too. One of the more useful bits of info I found out is that some of the gauges use the rpm's and what not to determine the shifting of gears, so the gauge does it all for you. Some of those ebay ones use a magnet and two sensors to determine shifts. I can see you getting a lot of false shifts thst way. However if you go thst route you could possibly wire it into the gauge to read those shifts.

Long story short here the gauge you want to use you need to find out how it gets its shift information

I found an NOS shift sensor like the one I linked, but for $50 cheaper. we'll see how it goes. If it doesn't work I should be able to just resell it
