Those carbs and velocity stacks look sexy!  Really nice job on the carbs.

I  do love the look of velocity stacks, and I've run them on my 750, but make sure to cover them when not in use, and to avoid riding in dusty or wet (rain) environments.

I will add foam inserts to the stacks as well to help with restricting the flow somewhat.

I received all of my bolts back from zinc plating today finally and it was worth the wait!  They look GREAT!!!

Now I can plastigage the crank bearing shells tonight and get it together!

Thanks!

I'm trying to take my time and make this bike perfect in my eyes.  Compared to all the amazing bikes on this site I feel like I've got a long way to go so it is much appreciated to hear that!

Alright, so I have this random little dowel pin that I have no clue where it goes, and then only one of the large pins so I am missing one large one it looks like.  Other than that, I believe I am ready to put the cases together.

Can anyone help me figure out the dowel pin situation?!

Here is one of the big ones I'm referring to:

Here is the empty spot on the other side where I need one it looks like:

And this is the smaller one that was with my crank case supplies and I have no idea where it goes:

Let get this figured out so I can move along, its getting very exciting!

Ordered my electronics tray and new kickstand today so that I can modify my frame all at once.  Once those come in I will de-tab and chop the frame, weld seat hoop, weld new kickstand, weld seat attachments, and attach new oil tank and electronics tray and get it all painted.

Small one are used in one of the side covers ( clutch, generator, shifter) and also in rocker towers and rocker cover. You dont need small ones between cases.

Yes, you need both of the large dowels for when you put the case together.  It's not that oil is flowing through it or anything, but they're alignment guides that make sure the 2 cases go together aligned.

I had an extra one at one point that I had gotten from Bill Benton.  I was pretty sure I returned it to him when I found my second one.  I just went and confirmed that indeed I did return it to him.  Otherwise, it was going to be yours.  Sorry.

DFW Honda had the dowels in stock so I went and picked up two today!  Everything has been triple checked for the crankcase and will be assembled tomorrow.  Engine should be finished soon!  I am waiting on a few pieces to get back from plating though..

I got the cases together with no issues last weekend, transmission still shifts like butter!  Started installing the studs but some were having trouble going in so I'll clean the threads again, for the 4th time..

Most likely this bike will be going on a bit of a break soon, I've invested most of my money in my business this week and might have to wait 3-4 months to order the rest of the parts needed :(

Jarob,
We've all been there.  These bikes seem to take more money than anticipated when you're restoring or modifying them.  I know we doubled our original estimate of cost.  And there were many items we would have liked to purchase earlier but had to wait for cash flow reasons.

Glad to hear the cases are back together.  Now just have to get those studs in so you can get cylinders, rings, head etc all buttoned back up.

Hey I've got a question.

I FORGOT TO REPLACE THE OIL SEALS!

So I have to old oil seals on the crank, etc. still but have these fresh new oil seals sitting in a bag on my work bench.

Is it worth tearing the cases back down to replace them?

Mods vs Rockers this weekend, wish I could have joined!

The fiat all cleaned up at the "shop"

Honing could not have been easier

Waiting on a new base gasket, I might have ripped mine....

And my new custom alloy fender to replace that old giant.

Still debating if I want to crack open the cases again to replace the crank oil seal...

Really?!

It's a flex hone, you order just the right size for your cylinders so that you really dont have to worry about over honing.

http://www.mscdirect.com/browse/tn/Abrasives/Laps-Hones/Hones/Flexible-Hones?navid=12100209

Drill it up and down for about 20 seconds and done.

The Vapor Blasting?  The head alone would only be about $50

Spend a good 2+ hours today splitting the cases again and replacing the oil seals, got it all bolted back up and will work on the cylinders this weekend.

Awesome!  Nice job on the piston install.
And good luck on the house.  Makes all the difference in the world having a place where you can just go in the garage/shed/downstairs and work on the bike for a few minutes at a time.
