I kind of figured you were collaborating with one or both of them to put together a surprise for next season. You've got to use any and all resources at your disposal to meet your goal. Its just me and my shade tree over here but I'm going to spend some time under a limb formulating a solid plan. Neither the bike or the rider were as consistent as they should have been this season. Got to get both on the same upward swing.

Is that your holy head?  What's the deal with the drilled head cooling fins.  RC did that VERY early on with a few engines that I know of, but didn't see much of that since.  RC drilled more, but smaller diameter holes from the chamber end up to but not into the top fin layer.

Lightening it and cooling it AND trying to break Frank's record ;-)

Frank may have to start using some of those super light top secret pink 6mm bolts to counteract those holes!
As of today 3/13/2012 my original owner 75 CB750F has made it through 3 wives, er EX-wives. Free at last.  ;-)

Jerry,

Records are meant to be broken. Its open to anyone to re-set just like I did- I've got the official certificate to prove it along with my name in the books. But wouldn't it be fitting if Bill was able to lower it next season?? That turbo bike, Purple Rain,  might be the ideal candidate for a 9 second pass ??

Uhhh, the light weight, pretty bolts are a BIG NO!!! Bling never made me fast.

Medyos reminded me about this thread. I haven't posted in a while because I've been focusing on building a high compression engine for this chassis. Also looking at the possibility of having n aftermarket chromemoly arm built to keep the weight down. Standby cause something is about to happen soon.

I need to extend that Katana 600 arm about 6-7" to at least match the wheelbase on my 78' F model. Problem with that arm is its made of steel and heavy. Thats the main reason i'm contemplating an aftermarket chromemoly arm- its much lighter. I just hate to spend that $600 for the new arm when i can spend  $200 or less extending the Kat arm. That $400 would go far on parts for the engine and chassis. Decisions, decisions.

Frank, how long is the Kat arm? Most mono shock MX bikes have rather long aluminum arms, like 24" pivot to axle.

I will wait for Frankie to answer that.
What i like about the arm, and I considered a few. Its steel, not my favorite but..I would have no qualms about welding to it..  Cant say that about Aluminum, unless willing to heat treat it.. At 150 bux plus shipping 2 ways
And it looks Ok ...pretty nice actually.
Bigger pivot but I can deal with that.. I will cut the front off mine, move pivot back..

Yeah, I understand about welding on an alloy arm, but I would be more concerned about the greatly increased pressure on the shock mount, with both a longer arm and the heavier spring required for a bike that weighs twice as much. Just throwing it out for discussion.. ;)

Scottly, the Katana arm is approximately 24" long.  This isn't the first Katana arm i used on a Honda F model. We extended that one about 3-4" but it was an earlier model arm and not quite as long as the 2000' arm i'm using. It went on a street bike so I didn't want it to be too long because the owner wasn't interested in extending the seat pan to fit the overall wheelbase. I attached a picture to this post. We put an early model GSXR 1100 frontend on the bike. I rebuilt a stock motor for him but i'm about to start on an 836 so he can have a bit more power.

Like i said before, the pros of the Kat arm are its steel and can be welded and extended easily. The cons are its steel and its heavy and will be even heavier with the extra 6-7" added. I've never given any thought to using a dirt bike arm. You've planted a seed i need to cultivate. Thanks

My 03 honda crf450 swingarm is 23" pivot to axle.  Not sure where they get them done but the hill climbing guys have a foot or more added to the swingarms, some of them are very long and use the stock front piece.

is the gsxr frontend bolt on, or did it take mods to work?

It was not bolt on. But still fairly simple. You will need to use the Honda stem. Press it and out then have it set up in the GSXR lower triple. The GSXR stem was longer I think and it kept me from sourcing bearings at the time. I think Alls Balls does carry conversion bearings now but I wasn't aware of it at the time.

I've got the engine off the 75 F model street bike right now to freshen it up. The fram is still at my buddy's house. I'll try to get by and take some more pictures of the frame work for the shock. We didn't take many when it was being built. There was a build thread somewhere on this forum but it only has sporadic updates. I'll look for the link to that one. I'll be picking at the current F model project in the next month or so. I'm messing with an old car for now.
