FRANK: You and wife have a great holiday ..... a Fire Chief I work for on the big RED truck gave me this answer Richie  [POPS] don't give me a problem but give me YOUR solution and with 30 years on the Fire Dept. that is what I DID = that Chief is still alive and I thank him every month at our retires lunch for those words of wisdom. Your solution will be put in your tool box and can be taken out when needed.

Pops, all I can do at this point is concentrate on the solution. I'll pull the engine off tomorrow night, split the cases and reinstall the shaft and gear. We'll be ready for the 2019 season.

Happy New Year to you. Hope to see you at a race next season.

Pull the engine off tonight. I'll split the cases tomorrow, clean everything up and reinstall the kick shaft and gear. Hope to get it done, reinstalled and started up by Sunday evening.

Sometimes we have to go backwards to move forward. I'm still focused on the goal.

I got hungry so I knew it was time to quit. I ran out of shop snacks.  :P. I'll stock up tomorrow so I can fuel up and keep working. Now if I can just hang this thing back on the chassis without nicking the powder coating. Ahhh, screw it, its a dragbike, not a show bike. Lol.

I had to take a few step backwards but I'm moving ahead now.

Quick update, I got the engine back on the frame and after pre-lubing it again, I was able to establish oil pressure. Spinning it over with just the starter for a short while netted 55 psi. I buttoned everything up and put fire in the hole. It cranked up right away and idled but I did have to do some adjustments minor idle screw adjustments on the Lectrons. I didn't hear any knocking, rattling or crazy noises. I shut it down because I knew at least one of the carbs was too rich so I pulled the plugs and one was smutty, another much to lean and the others on the boarder line. I also noticed an oil leak on the rotor button but only a minimal amount inside the ignition cavity. Its possibly a crank seal leak or the o-ring is bad on the advancer stud causing the oil to push out under pressure thereby running along the stud to the button. I'll check that out tonight to diagnose the problem. The seal us new but it could be the problem. Worse case scenario, the engine gets pulled again to inspect the seal.

A short video of the bike running after I found and corrected a few electrical problems. The smoke you see is due to the carbs being too rich. Slowly trying to tweak the Lectrons to get the right plug color. Those carbs typically run rich anyway. No slow speed or main jets, only a metering rod for adjustment of the mixture. Designed for idle and full throttle only.

About to get started back on this project again. I set it aside for a moment mainly because racing season had begun in full force and i've been chasing points in 3 different series. Hoping to debut this bike at the Cup race in Darlington next month.

Forgot to post these progress pictures.  It's just aesthetic but something is still happening now to get the bike ready. Shiny paint never won a race but at least we can try to look good going down the drag strip. Lol

I didn't paint this one Jerry. My brother helped out and got a fella in Atlanta to lay the color.  It's close to what's on my other bike.

Frank, shiny paint has less aero drag than matt paint or dirty paint. Looks good!

Thanks Richard,

Sounds like its time for the wife and I to take a road trip to Ohio. Or maybe you can ask JT or Crow to throw them in their vehicle and bring them to the next race we'll attend together. I can use anything Kaw related.

My brother picked up the body work from the painter and brought it to me this weekend.  I must say it turned out very well.  Now I just need to put the top end back together and get it to the dragstrip for testing.  We plan to debut it at the Darlington Dragway, Man Cup race at the end of the month.

Well,  even if we aren't fast, we want to look good. Lol. But pretty never won a race and that's our goal.  I want  to make this bike as consistent and reliable as my F2. I've got no complaints with it in 20 plus years.
