Looking for distributor service parts for an RS set up.
I know that many say that it is a VW air cooled unit, but I also remember that someone said they are reverse rotation.

Does anyone have a list of part numbers to order service stuff?
like

-Cap
-Points (dual)
-Condenser

Don't think they need much more then that.
And just to toss a wrench in the works.....anyone swap to an electronic ignition in them?
Again the rotation direction might come into play.....

Coil recommendations too while im at it?

I had an old Mallory Unilite distributor which is electronic, not sure what it was off of but looks identical on the outside to the RC unit. I believe they are a VW unit. I took the insides out of the unilite and swapped it into the RC unit. Had to reuse the RC shaft because it is reverse rotation and the advance weights are backwards because of this. Other then that it is a bolt in swap. You have to use the unilite rotor as that is what actually has the trigger windows for the electronic part. With the unilite you have to use a resistor coil or a resistor in line or you will ruin the Mallory unit.

Got any pics, Jag? If it's a Bosch unit, certain VW and Porsche caps and rotors should fit. Pertronics(?) made an electronic ignition replacement for the points.
Edit: Just noticed you mentioned dual points, which rules out any early Bosch I've worked on.

Looks to be a larger diameter cap than the early Bosch, but may be similar to later VW units. Got a side view? Any tags or marks on the body?

I have two units to service.
The 25608 is the number for the plate. They still make that.
Unsure on part numbers for the points, rotor or cap.

99% sure it's a VW part.
Mallory RC650a are on the side.

Pivots appear to be on the wrong side for the reverse rotation?
I may have a large VW cap or distributor laying around; if I can find it, I'll measure it. BTW, the Pertronics wouldn't care about the direction.

I have been told the RC is reversed direction to the VW.
Mallory sells an electronic kit too.

Those points look like they are for a standard rotation Mallory. The part # RC650a is a clue that this was set up by Mallory specifically for RC's drive, and the proper points may not be available, or are for a completely different application. I'd opt for an electronic ignition even if points were available.

Points in the Jegs picture looks reverse to the ones in my units.
Also don't understand the differences to pick an electronic set up either.
I'll take what I have apart tomorrow and hope there are some part numbers.

Yep.
And has the correct hole for adjusting them.
So that kit from jegs will not work.

Now off to find a condensor.
And cap/rotor

Just looked through some of my papers for the RC dist. and your numbers are correct for the cap, rotor and condensor.

The R.C. Distributor is a reverse rotation Mallory. All the parts are Mallory. I have done much research on this as i found out messing with my R.C. Engineering angle drive setup. Back many moons ago i was trying to get extra drive gears made for the angle drive ( major $$$$ ). I contacted Mallory and they no longer make the reverse rotation distributor or the points plate ( for the reverse rotation ). The points and cap are still made. Here is a website for the Mallory 4 cylinder distributor parts.....

Note: Any distributor or magneto for a VW aircooled engine will fit the R.C. angle drive. Either distributors or magnetos must be setup or
( " PHASED " for the magneto ) in reverse rotation. It is a good thing i found this out as Russ Collins Jr didn't know about this on the R.C. Tripple drag bike. The original special Mallory mag was stolen and he found a another magneto which had not been phased for reverse rotation ! Needless to say in its current form it would have been a trigger to a expensive nitro BOMB ! I told him about it and he sent it back to F.I.E. to have that Mallory mag phased for reverse rotation. It could have been real ugly.

Hey Jon, I recall the quest for drive gears, and IIRC, there was some mention that the angle drive wouldn't hold up under the torque required to drive a magneto?

The plate, 25608, seems to be in stock and available.
Can not find any complete reverse rotation units though as you said.

Going to order some parts this weekend to service the ones I have.
Thinking my "spare" will be offered up to put an ARD on my seeley.
