Orphan ground wire on the CB550
« on: December 08, 2014, 07:33:03 PM »
What is/was/supposed to have been the purpose of that orphaned ground wire that is tucked in there on the electric panel of the CB550K?  Even the wiring diagram shows it there.  Had to have been some purpose for that ground wire, was it used for the 550F, needed for the European model or something?

I guess if it's specific to the year, this would be a 1977 CB550k

Just about every model has this wire. Some diagrams show it used for a 3-wire flasher and it's generally agreed that it is for that purpose.

That would make sense, it's in the general vincinity of that flasher unit.  I shall ignore it.

off-topic, but that is some seriously retro electronics on that wiring panel.  That voltage regulator is really out there.

I did that!
From 1975 thru 1984, I toured with the CB antenna sticking up back there. Had a [slightly over-powered] Cobra 19 mounted in the Vetter with a noise-cancelling mike and speaker in my helmet.

After all, touring with a 750 when the speed limit was 55 MPH was hard to do if you wanted to use 5th gear very much...  ;)
