Carbs leaking like crazy! Please help
« on: December 05, 2014, 03:45:24 PM »
I took the carbs apart on my 1977 CB 750 to clean them. I put them back together to the best of my abilities. Started up it and it ran but while it was running it leaked out of all four bowl draining nipples. I made sure the drain screws were all tight. Could it have something to do with the float height and it's overflowing and draining? Do I need to take the carbs out again to fix this problem or can it fix it with them still attached to the engine? Also leaking from one or two of needles in the front of the carb which I believe is the gas intake needle. I set it to 2 turns open. Any help on this issue would be great, it's my first time messing around with these carbs

Pull em off, you have a float issue.  They may be stuck open...

You are getting Gas from the carb overflow at the bottom. The floats can be put on upside down and other things. You will have to thank them down. Sorry, but I have the same carbs.

The screws are actual mixture screws unlike the earlier years. They have a small O ring to stop gas from leaking from them.

I had mine off four times since I tried to take shortcuts. Sorry.

Looks like there is gas above the overflow tube.  Looks like that bowl gasket is at least leaking, combined with other things perhaps.

I could be wrong but it looks like there is some remnants of previous attempt to stop it with silicone sealer or something, so you might as well pull them off and fix them proper, while you're in there you can clean them a bit and set float level/inspect valves etc.
