I found my paint choice, John Deere Blitz Black. Its $30 a gallon and tough as nails. Excuse the photos, I was in low light and cant take a frigging good pic to save my life. Also this was the tack coat, I have the parts hanging up right now.

Cool man! it definitely looks tuff. Nothing flows as well as the stock tail section on the F's.
You do any work to the engine or is it stock?

Where did you pick up that paint. I've been reading on the blitz black and its supposed to be bullet proof.

Aw right! I was crew chief on an F-4C & later an F-106, Not Stealth but Fighters all the same.
Belonged to the 67th Tac Fighter Squadron (F-4) & The 1st Cam (Air Defense Command w/ the

I bought the John Deere paint at a John Deere store. Go to their website and use the dealer locator, or I think you can order the paint direct from them.

The motor is an 836 with Venolia pistons and an Andrews cam.

I've used rustoleum "high heat rust preventative paint for GRILLS" on my gas tank looks pretty good actually. left the orange peel effect on there and it has a semi gloss finish...

Yes, Nate, I have used the exotic Rustoleum FLAT BLACK to paint all the bodywork on a CB450SC. It came out so cool, I got over $900. on ebay for it! This winter, my '75 CB750F will receive the same treatment. Even if it gets cruddy after 2 seasons, or even after 1, it can be easily sanded and painted all over again. No wax buildup!

My black bike also has the Rustoleum love . . .semi-gloss everywhere except the exhaust - I got fancy there with high-temp stove/grill paint. I've actually had quite a few compliments on my $10 or so paint job.

Looks way better than what was left of the stock paint.

Before the current Line-X job, I had my tank and sidecovres sprayed with Dupli-color rattlecan high temp
low gloss engine enamel. Stuff is rock solid, and has a nice matt look to it when dry.

Just dont think you are gonna be able to sand it off easily

That line-x tank look is rad. On an old VW I had, many moons ago, I had the gas tank redone at a 'Gas Tank Renu' or something like that. It turned out a kinda flat black plasti-coat looking - inside and out. I was thinking of having something like that done to my tank eventually - eliminate any chance of rust inside (with rainy Oregon weather and all. . . )

So you spraybombed (rattlecan) all those black parts on your scoot ?
Did you prep/sand them before ? I ask because I was thinking of spraying my
rear shocks black , and was wondering if the paint would hold-up
(did you dis-assemble them when you painted them?)

POR-15 has an etching primer that supposedly will adhere to chrome. I have heard of several guys that have used it and the spraybomb is holding to it. I have a set of snotty shocks that I am going to sand and give it a try.

I had heard of the chrome prep but I actually just did a light sanding and then thorough de-greasing before painting. I didn't disassemble the shocks just painted them using cardboard screen behind them and touched up a bit with a small brush (lol).

I am a fine arts painter so I have a pretty good crosshatch technique that doesn't leave brush strokes.

I plan on using a brush again when doing the cylinder fins - there you wouldn't see brush strokes, anyways. I have pretty small hands so I will be able to get in there OK and around the carbs, etc.

Sometimes you have to quit waiting for perfection and just do it! lol (hmmm - that sounded a tad suggestive)

It looks way better than the messed up stock paint and half-assed flat black painting the previous owner did. Nail polish remover (acetone) and steel wool did wonders for quick removal of the previous paint from the chrome.

ProTeal55 - what does that exhaust wrap stuff do? Keep heat off/out of the engine better?

I found it really interesting to read that black on the engine radiates heat better than the nekked aluminum or steel - my exhaust system does seem cooler to the touch since I painted it.

By the way Pro, I really like the aesthetics of your bike - we kinda have a similar look going on (wish I had some of your mechanical mods though, like those dual front discs!) You have to love that black and silver combination . . . I'm going for a goth/industrial cruiser look . . .lol
