CB500 & CB550 Airbox Compatability
« on: December 14, 2014, 06:44:53 PM »
Are the air box chambers and Air Filter housings compatible between the two? If so which years?

I have a newly acquired '71 cb500 and am looking for these bits. Ebay has ones for CB550 but not for CB500.

I have a '75 550 and everything looks like it would mate up, but not completely sure.

They do look pretty similar, but if you've got another 550 handy just go ahead and take the air system off of it and try it on your 500. It's literally about 3 or 4 screws, shouldn't take long.

If it were just the air filter box,,,,yes, not that difficult. Airbox chamber is a whole ordeal. Big PITA.

they'll swap over, the 550 has that extra blow by pipe crap set up,you can bypass that on your 500,just plug it up.
