What would you recommend for the control switches? I bought a new right hand controls switch but need to paint my left to match now,
I used VHT Gloss Black when we painted ours, then painted the red areas with red model paint.
The stock switches weren't a gloss black but were more of a flat black but we had cans of the gloss left and just decided to use it.
To paint the red areas, use some model paint and a very fine paint brush. Let the red fill the recessed area and then "spill out" a tiny bit onto the black. (Obviously this is done well after the black paint has dried and cured.) Let it sit for about 2 or 3 minutes and then take a slightly damp rag and gently wipe the excess red paint off the black, trying not to let it get down into the recessed red area.
Hint: If you wipe the red paint immediately after some gets on the black area, it tends to grab some of the still wet red paint from down inside the recessed area and pull it out with it. If you let that harden for a minute or two, it's still wet enough on the excess to come off easily but it doesn't pull out the red part that you want to leave quite so much.
