Tire sizes
« on: December 16, 2014, 07:33:31 AM »
I'm trying to figure out what size rear tire to put on my K6.  Does anyone have a picture with a 120/90 18 tire mounted on a bike that I could check for reference.

Don't have a picture handy, but I was running a Continental 120/90 X 18 on my K6 and Liked it.
Unfortunately Continental doesn't offer that size anymore in their K112 series.

If I can get a picture, I will post later.

OK, Here ya go.
Only thing is, I was a bit wrong.  My rear tire is a 130/80 X 18,  Continental K112.
Nothing was modified to put the tire on in March of 1979.  LOL

But here are the pictures anyhow.

Ok, thanks Charlie.  Anyone else have a profile shot of their bike with 120/90 18 tires?

Here's a Dunlop GT501 120/90 18 on my 76' 750F

They felt great, looked great, but my experience the Dunlop was not great unfortunately. Front tire developed a bulge/out of round situation (belts separating internally) in less than 2500 miles with still plenty of tread.

I've since switched to Avon's in the proper listed sizing for our bikes, 4.00-18 Rear and 3.25-19 Front, and I love the feel of them so far but have hardly put mileage on them. Will see how they hold up this season.

My rear end isn't buttoned up all the way in that bottom pic, don't mind the dangling plate...   :D

Thanks Gooseman, just what I needed to see.  I wanted a little bulkier look to the rear, but didn't want it to look way out of place and I think they look good, thanks again.

What front tire are you running?

Ps - Great looking bike by the way!

Photos: Metzeler Lasertec  100/90-19 front  120/90-18 rear.   This works really well.
I might try OEM size next time 3.25x19 front and 4.00x18 rear

The old tire at the wall is Metzeler ME99 130 -18. I think it was 70 profile, OK for touring.  Current combo better.
