Just got myself a '71 CB500 K0
« on: December 16, 2014, 06:32:56 PM »
Hello all. I just picked up a 1971 CB500 K0. The bike is not running at the moment, but over the next year I hope to have it back on the road. I just finished restoring a 1972 Norton Commando Interstate that my father had sitting for 30 years and gave it back to him for his birthday a few months ago, and already miss all the good and bad times I had out in the garage. I don't think I will go with a stock restoration on this one, I am thinking about a stock-ish cafe racer look. I had a lot of help from the Norton community and their forums and I am guessing I will be here a searching for hours and asking a lot of questions as I start on this project. I have no experience with these types of bikes so I am asking for patience and a little understanding when I ask for advice on something I may have no idea what I am talking about. With that being said, I thank you all in advance.

Welcome blip.   If you restored a Norton, you may find this easier. For one, parts are very plentiful and reasonably priced.
I restored a '71, it was a nice bike.....when I was done with it!

Thanks. I just picked it up a few hours ago. I will post some pictures tomorrow. I plan on taking my time and doing it right and if it takes me all winter and summer thats okay with me. We plan on taking a tip to Sturgis with the Norton for the Rally this summer so time may be tight for getting it on the road this summer. I am also located in Saskatchewan Canada, so I am still looking into where I can get parts locally, and what US sites are the best for price and shipping.  Any suggestions are welcome.

Depending on what parts you need, eBay and this forum are 2 very good places to get parts.
Some items may still be available through your local Honda dealer too.

Awesome! I picked up a cb400 a couple years back and have finally finished some other projects which allowed me to get to this one. Finally! This is approx. my starting point after finally finding a tank for it.

And this is where I'm at about a month later of free time:

since you are in Canada -- check out partsnmore.com
They speak Canadianese.
I recently restored and sold a 77 cb750f, and am nearly finished with a (former basket case) cb750k5.  This is a place to share, learn and enjoy.  I am grateful to and for 99+% of this site's membership.
