Honda CB400 from Austin TX, Newbieeeee
« on: December 03, 2014, 04:46:35 PM »
Hey guys, just picked up a '75 Honda CB400 to compliment my '71 CL350. It's going to need a lot of work to get going, but I am hopefully I can make a good bike out of this slightly abused model.

The kickstarter mount inside the bottom crankcase is snapped so the first step is replacing that to get a kickstarter in there and see what the compression is like, the wiring is totally shot, so can't really try to turn it over with the electric start only.

I will probably start a "kinda" rebuild thread once I have the pictures and stories to go along.

I found it in west Ft. Worth area, it had been sitting in a barn for 30 years or so. And it isn't seized! My friend actually picked up that CB550 behind it with the GXSR fork. We got them for basically pennies, but they need some love.

And thanks Larry, I'm just taking it one step at a time but I will definitely let you know.

Welcome to the best forum for these bikes! My next used bike will most likely be a 400F, so I will follow your work closely! :)

Also consider putting your City and State in your profile (left side), it helps others to help you, as if by magic.

Cheers!

Um. Sorry...  The City and State used to be shown in the left column, or at least I thought it was. I may be thinking of a different forum I use... Ah well...
