New Guy CB550f

Hi Everyone. I've just picked up a CB550F on the cheap in need of a lot of TLC. I've done a number of CB's before, but never really torn into the engine. Mostly cosmetic, carbs, tuning, etc. Compression test with no carbs installed gives me 1)118psi 2)120psi 3)0psi 4)0psi.

I know the bike will need a top end, full re wire, maybe valves? Any advice on how to determine the health of the top end other than tear into it?

Looking forward to all the great info on this site while I rebuild this one!

Also have a 1980 Ironhead as my main ride:

This is a CB750 I did in the past. Sadly sold it to get the next bike..

Like the prior CB a lot!

Drizzle a bit of oil into the chamber and re-run the compression check on 3/4. Curtis to see where they might come up to.

Remove the tappet inspection covers, and verify the valve adjustments for all cylinders if compression doesn't recover. Then test again. It's not unusal for a rocker adjuster to have gotten loose and now the valves are sitting open and no compression. Also, if the motor has been sitting for some time, get it running and hot, and see where she comes back.
