Topic: '71 CB500 Top Fork Bridge

I started to tear down the bike today and noticed that the top fork bridge is cracked near the clamp on the left side. Can someone please list the years and models that are interchangeable? I should probably get one now rather than later. Thanks.

Easy way to check is to find the part number(motogrid.com ) is a good site then put the number into their search engine and it will list all compatible models.  I've a friend who has his son repair broken top crowns...Larry

Thanks but that page doesn't list interchangeable parts. From what I can find the 71-76 CB500/550 may work. can anyone confirm this before I purchase one and find out it won't work? also are there any billet ones available with the clamps for stock bars or anything other then clip ons?

The most likely reason for a cracked yoke clamp is that the spacer washers (the little "D" shaped washers in the following pic) were either left out or were too thin.




If you can't find an actual part, they can be reproduced by using a washer of the correct diameter and @ .090 thickness, then grinding the flat on one edge. The flat is important because it allows the washer to fit up against the forks

After noticing the crack and doing some research that was the cause. continuing to disassemble the bike the washer was still in the other side that is not cracked.
