'71 CB750 - Project Cafe
« on: March 17, 2016, 07:43:33 AM »
Hey guys, I've been lurking for a little while thought I'd finally make an introduction and share my project.
I work for a Nissan Z specialist shop based out of Atlanta, Georgia and a Datsun enthusiast of sorts. I'm not new to CB's however it has been at least 7 years since I've had one.

This bike fell into my hands about a month or so ago when a friend of my dads mentioned the bike, since he had been packing up to move south and couldn't take the bike with him. We bounced back and forth, and ended up picking up 4 different bikes from the guy, including my CB750.

When I got it, it hadn't run in over 10 years and had been sitting lonely in the basement. The owner pulled the carbs to rebuild them, and for whatever reason never re-installed them. I got the bike home and had it running by the end of day 2.

The clutch was stuck, as were the needle & seat in the carbs. Fortunately the need & seat had been replaced and just needed a little cleaning, and I had 3 spare clutches and motor with the bike so there was no shortage of good parts.

So far I've learned that the front fork and gauges have been swapped to a K6-K7, making the search to buy the right parts a little annoying. The list of things I need to finish before the bike is riding as follows:

-Swing Arm Bushings
-Front Wheel Bearings
-Front Brakes (Have 3 calipers with brackets, all different. Need to ID what's going to work)
-Tires
-Need to decide what air filters to run
-Throttle Cables
-Carb adjustment

The bike now runs, idles, and moves under its own power. I've replaced quite a bit and more parts are on the way. I got a spare motor that appears to have been rebuilt and never run still sitting on the stand as well, appears to have some headwork done, but I'll dwell into that more later.

Welcome. Right over in Alpharetta is Bill Benton. He's the King of 750 Parts and can look at what you have, pull it out form his stash of nearly perfect used parts, and for some cash, send you on your merry way. Plus, he's a heck of a guy and all around encyclopedia of Honda parts.

You can send him a PM at Bill Benton\Racing thru the forum.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Lewis

That's great to hear! I'm about 30 minutes from Alpharetta, I'll have to send him a PM when I'm finished going through my bike.

man, what a find. I feel your pain on finding parts for a hodgepodge bike.  I've been there more than once.

I'd suggest allballs racing for the wheel bearings.  reasonably priced and maybe the best on the market.  stick with the stock airbox and upgrade the filter.  you have cv carbs and the pods really don't work.

cb750supply is a good source for parts.  The guy is in Fla. and his service is good.

I'm over in Douglasville.  Try to get over to the bike night in Decateur when I can.
