Old Drag Racing Pics
« on: December 07, 2014, 09:46:23 am »
Ok, I'm doing a documentary on the history of Minnesota Dragways here in Minnesota and the son of the track manager gave me a bunch of pictures for the project and there were a number of pictures of drag bikes, so I thought I'd post up the honda's here.  These are from the late 60's I believe.

Ahh, the days of no wheelie bars and stretched and raked frames. We've come a long way. Now instead of the front end increasing the wheelbase, we extend the back end to increase crank to axle length.

I noticed the lack of a frame cradle under the engine on that first picture, and how small the tubing was with a lack of triangulation.  That had to handle like a salami.  Also, his feet hanging past the rear tire!   :o  Otherwise, cool pictures!
I'm not as smart as I look, but I am pretty.

Lol yeah, look at that "engine as a stress member" design. Fastbike, a salami might be to stiff lol more like an uncooked hotdog.

I just noticed the "burn out girder".  The front brakes look like they are off of a CT70. ;D

It was real common back in the day to use a S, CL, or SL90 front end.
Check out this dragster frame from Action Fours in their 1974 Catalog.
Designed for a SL90 triple tree and the price - $329.00 US. WOW!!!
