Howdy from South Bend, IN
« on: December 21, 2014, 04:45:18 PM »
Howdy all. (That's the former Texan talking). Just picked up a 1975 CB550F (I think F?) on Craigslist a few months ago. This site has already been a huge help in rebuilding carbs, tracking down oil light issue (replaced sender, all good), replacing mystery oil with Rotella, and fixing a cracked overflow tube on carb #4. So, thank you! Look forward to learning more and hopefully posting something of my own soon. -Scott

Hi Speed, and welcome.  I am not far from you, up in Kalamazoo, MI....your bike looks to have all the makings of a K model, not F.
If it works good, it looks good...

Hey thanks, good to know. What are the signs? I know the exhaust is not stock. The carbs had 100 main jets, but that could be related to the exhaust. What are you spotting?

Welcome.  Everything on the bike says it's a K model

You got k tank, seat, sidecovers, all instantly recognizable, and all different on the f.  There are further less obvious differences in the f frame such as passenger footpeg mounts and the brake pedal arrangement.

Thank you, good to know. The guy who sold it to me billed it as an F, but I had suspicions and just didn't know what to look for. I still dig the bike either way!

Hey, welcome! I'm also in south bend. I'm fairly new at all this myself, but it's awesome to see someone else from town on here.

Howdy from Texas.  Looks like a nice K model.  Many guys mislabel the K's due to it being a 550 F(our)
