Cracked overflow tube quick fix
« on: December 21, 2014, 04:58:51 PM »
Hi all. Newbie here. Hope I'm posting this in the right spot. I don't have a question, just wanted to share a success (and see if anyone spots an issue I might be missing?)

After rebuilding carbs, #4 kept leaking anytime petcock was open. I took the bowl off thinking it was a float valve issue, but sure enough there was a crack in the overflow tube. After reading about soldering and JB Weld solutions, I went out and bought soldering gear, but decided to try a lower-tech solution first and I'm glad I did.

I found some very small fuel line - .080" inner diameter - at a local chain auto store near the lawnmower stuff. It was just the right diameter to fit snugly over the whole drain tube, sealing up the crack. I used about a 1" length of it, softened in hot water then blew it out with carb cleaner to get rid of water and help it slide on. See pics for results. Long story short, I'm drip-free and the soldering kit can go back to the store! Woohoo!
