So my bike got knocked over and im looking for a replacement (yay insurance coverage). I can find several fiberglass tanks in the style im looking for but I remember reading something about they should only be used on the track or something....

Thoughts? or a source on a knee dented steel tank sub $500?

Also its a cb750k2, what other models tanks will fit it?

You can use fiberglass, but it needs a liner to withstand fuel and potential rupture should you ever crash.

like a redkote liner or plastic bag liner?

Fuel resistant epoxy liner.. Contact member Ricky racer and ask him what they use in their fiberglass tanks.. ;)

Use a metal tank, just easier. is your tank totally beyond repair?

Not entirely...
But since I'm dealing with insurance I thought I'd try and take advantage.

calj737, I am glad I saw your post about Redkote and fiberglass as I have a Tracy body that I am going to be using and was planning to use Redkote in it.

you could post in the services wanted or parts wanted section.   There are members on here that could put some knee dents in a tank for you.
Yep, I'm the kid that figured out how to put things back together...eventually.

Just submit an insurance claim for the customized tank you have and get a check. Then mod another tank or fix yours, easy peasy.

that's what I did with the wifes Virago when some asshat hit it. Got the check and fixed things up myself.

When I did this one I had a garage and access to the necessary tools... So I won't be able to sand or paint... Also live in Chicago so I can't do it outside right now

There are some custom new steel tanks on ebay, nothing specific for a 750. Some say for Honda also, I wonder what might fit? They are made in asia I'm sure.

NC - you could always hammer them in yourself and then do a bit of bodywork to smooth them out. Something like this... Especially if your tank is already "dented" up. What's the harm in experimenting? This is tank I helped a member out with by "refining" his medieval hammering and newbie filler work. Turned out pretty nice and very symmetrical. All for the cost of shipping too- primed and ready for paint.

There was NOTHING medieval about that hammer. I had just bought it Cal.  8)

It is amazing what comes out of India these days. Brand new steel and aluminum tanks for $500 and under.

Even if it is just average, they still represent a tremendous value.
