DFour build thread

hey guys. caught the cafe racer bug this year so i figured id give it a try. picked up a 71 750 for a good price. motor leaks oil, smells like its burning oil too. wont idle by itself. obviously carbs and motor need going through. i have a general idea of where i want to go with it, but nothing specific yet. i know ill be doing a conversion to a single shock, but beyond that nothing is set in stone. i have no time frame to get this thing done so progress will probably not be as fast as some of the other threads on here, but im knee deep in this thing now so im going to keep moving forward. anyways here is how it sits now. frame is primered to protect against rust until powdercoat.

I see you cut the kickstand off,I did the same thing.
Once you start stripping off the unwanted tabs and
brackets,the stock stand looks like a dinosaur.

mine was all bent up anyways so i just chopped it off. im sure i will get rid of other tabs before im finished with the frame, but i want to get the motor running again and mounted and figure out what im going to do about relocating the oil before i chop everything off. im pretty much making everything up as i go so we will see how it turns out

please excuse my ignorance, but im not sure what that is? an instrument to ease the motor in and out of the frame just for convenience or is this a must have type of thing lol?

ah i see what it is... trust me, im not the one that cut the frame. i was hesitant to buy it after i saw the cuts up there actually.. i got it out by taking the top cover off and a friend helped me lift it out. unfortunately i dont have a welder yet so i cant do anything too major. hopefully in a few weeks ill have my hands on one. the deeper i get into this one the more i feel like the guy before me liked to half-ass things.

the long tubular bushing that goes inside the swing arm was welded in... i didnt think that was how it was supposed to be

They are talking about this so the top end can be removed without
taking the entire engine out.
