Sorry to interupt the fun but could I ask one of you to explain what the "brace" is for? Where does it go? What is the improved effect? I gather that it keeps the forks from "walking" but I don't know what that means either.

Thanks for the info.

G'Day mate, ok, well your fork legs are tied together at the upper and lower triple trees and anchored at the axle, so the only thing to stop them twisting under braking and suspension forces between those points is the fender bracket, (if you run a front fender) albeit, not very well.

A fork brace clamps the sliders together at about the halfway point between the axle and triple clamps, (depending on the length of your forks) making the whole assembly more rigid, thus improving your steering in corners, and under brakes. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Terry, does that mill spin the opposite direction, like your toilets?   ;D

Yeah Strokey, it's really hard trying to find left handed cutting tools too! Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D

so does this meen you will be making them for a resonable price for the good friends you have on this forum.... ;)

peace ;D

BTW top work mate.... looks fantastic... and like always a top job form you....great

Thanks Ben, well the F0/F1 has longer sliders than the K0-K6 so a brace like mine might work with it, the earlier bikes are more difficult though, most of the braces I've seen are made from steel tube. I might try making one of them next. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks Terry. I have never noticed a problem but it is the old adage that you never knew you needed one until you got one!

What about a hideous "D", Dave? Actually, I've just realised I could use my mill for evil, and replace the "T" with a very rude "one finger" sign! Ha ha, Cheers, Terry. ;D

Good work.  I keep asking for a milling machine every Christmas, but it must sound too much like "new socks" and confuses my wife.

I modified a cheap ebay fork brace to fit my 400 using a much cruder method.  I really need a power feed and digital readout for my hacksaw.

Well done mate, I did the same to make a fork brace for a Kawasaki GPZ1100 fit my Suzuki GS1000S. Will the stock fender fit with that set up though, or did you just elect not to re-fit it? Cheers, Terry. ;D

I've been running just the brace without a fender.  You would have to get creative to fit a fender in there.

tsflstb , that is a great looking brace! Do you know what bike it came off of originally? (not to take away from terry's great home made jobbie)

Yeah, I didn't mean to whore up Terry's post.  He's got a much cleaner solution there with some good engineering and thought behind it.  Mine is kind of the duct tape and bailing wire equivalent of his.

I had a post a while back on the brace...

Actually Proty, looking at your pics I reckon a brace would be pretty easy, as my post title alludes, it's necessary to build a "bridge" over the tire, but it's certainly "do-able" and the difference in performance with your particular set-up would be very noticeable.

You could even hang a small fender off it, if you wanted to keep the mud out of your face in winter. Cheers, Terry. ;D

That's the kind of thing to have kicking around the garage just because it looks so nice. No need to mount it on the bike at all.

Nicely done terry!

Ok Sean, I'll do something nasty with it, ha ha!  ;D

How much $$$ Terry ???

I'm not in a hurry to make any more just yet mate, but when I do it won't be all that cheap, there's a lot of aircraft quality alloy in that thing, not to mention a day standing in front of my mill.

I've just received a paid order for 6 (six) complete oil cooler kits from Belgium, so I'm outta the game for a week or two, but I have been thinking about how I can make these things a viable proposition and have come up with one idea which might work, so watch this space! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Terry, how about I retrofit that mill with cnc controls?  I recently did a series 2 Bridgeport at work...  Enter your program, push the cycle start button and walk away!

CNC retro-fit? Are you married Strokey? I know I'm not a chick, but I'd be prepared to have "the operation" if it'd secure me that kinda technology! Let me know mate, and I'll sharpen the blades on my ol' Cox lawn tractor in anticipation, ha ha! Cheers, Terry. ;D

Ok, I talked to my wife and she said if I buy one more bike, she's gonna kick me out so I better be looking for a place to live.   ;D  Seriously, the kit I installed is just that- a complete kit with ballscrews, motors, all necessary hardware and an operator's manual.  It was either $13000 or $17000, but that was for a series two.  A series one is probably under $10000.  Without ballscrews is even less.  I'll try to locate some online info for your curiosity.

I guess it would be fun, though, chasing each other around the yard with cox and gravely tractors!!

 ;D ;D ??? :-[ :-\
