Old Drag Racing Pics

Ok, I'm doing a documentary on the history of Minnesota Dragways here in Minnesota and the son of the track manager gave me a bunch of pictures for the project and there were a number of pictures of drag bikes, so I thought I'd post up the honda's here.  These are from the late 60's I believe.

Ahh, the days of no wheelie bars and stretched and raked frames. We've come a long way. Now instead of the front end increasing the wheelbase, we extend the back end to increase crank to axle length.

Looking at those last pics...super long primarys and sandcast carbs. Thrown away by now.

I noticed the lack of a frame cradle under the engine on that first picture, and how small the tubing was with a lack of triangulation.  That had to handle like a salami.  Also, his feet hanging past the rear tire!   :o  Otherwise, cool pictures!

Lol yeah, look at that "engine as a stress member" design. Fastbike, a salami might be to stiff lol more like an uncooked hotdog.

I just noticed the "burn out girder".  The front brakes look like they are off of a CT70. ;D

It was real common back in the day to use a S, CL, or SL90 front end.
Check out this dragster frame from Action Fours in their 1974 Catalog.
Designed for a SL90 triple tree and the price - $329.00 US. WOW!!!
