'73 carb rebuild question
« on: December 28, 2014, 02:44:14 PM »
Hello, I'm refurbishing a set of carbs on my '73 CB750 and can not find an answer to a question I have about the throttle rod and the bracket that holds it in position on the throttle valve.  The question is on the bracket opening.  On two of the carbs the bracket is "open" and allows the throttle rod to move about 1/4" with spring pressure.  On the other two carbs the bracket is closed down on the spring allowing no spring movement.  Which is correct and is there a measurement on the opening of the bracket?

I hope I explained this well enough and I thank you for your help!!!

If the 'throttle rod' can flop around or it leans sideways than that bracket has been bent upward. This can happen when the slides are stuck in the carbs and excess force is used on the throttle to try and open them.  Hard to explain how they should be but all 4 brackets should be the same height and the rods should have a solid feel.

Yup, good description. I usually bend the bent ones back till they put just a slight load
on the spring after it's seated. Bent needle plates can cause carb sync to be a real adventure..
