CB 350 Oil Filter Case???
« on: October 05, 2006, 01:50:46 PM »
I have a question for the CB 350 F experts on the forum.  I recently started restoration on a CB 350.  The head on the oil filter center bolt is getting pretty shot so I decided to get an aftermarket 17 mm bolt.  I selected one for a CB 400 as there was none listed for the 350 f.  To my surprise, I found that the new bolt was too short for the 350.  I then compared the size of the oil filter case with that of my CB 500 and confirmed that the case was longer on the 350. Is there a reason for the larger case on the 350?  Can the 350 case be replaced with the shorter case of other CBs?

Thanks,

Tom

Is there a reason for the larger case on the 350?

More volume and better oil cooling??

Why would the tiny 350 need more oil volume and cooling??  I don't plan to race, has CB 350 F owner used a smaller oil filter cover?  Any reason not to?  A new bolt for the OEM cover costs over $40 so I would like to use a filter cover from a 750, 500 or 550.

Thanks,

Tom

Maybe they started that way to be on the safe side, and then down sized on the 400 because they realised it was not needed?

The 650 oil filter housing is bigger than the 750..

you could probably get the extension/adapor bolt from CB750/900 dohc and use your stock filter housing. Its screws into crankcase and the oil filter bolt screws into it. gives about 20mm extra length (I think, havent done one for some time) should be possible to get one from junked motor

Careful too as the bolts are made of chocolate and are easy to destroy...

A new OEM bolt from David silver spares is £20 :o
