78 550 clutch question
« on: October 07, 2006, 01:52:32 PM »
Hello all,
I just tore my clutch apart for the first replacement since I've had it.  My slipping clutch really makes sense now.  The 6 narrow tang friction disks measured in at about 2.6mm.  The spec says 3 is the min.  I just ordered a set of 7 replacements off ebay for about $34 shipped.  Seemed like a good deal considering honda's price.

My question is, how thick should the wide tang disk be?  It now measures in at ~3.3mm.  Can I get away with not replacing it?  That would be great because honda want $15 for it.  Alternatively, can I use one of the narrow tang disks?

You ought to replace all plates as a set along with the springs and the casing gasket, otherwise you are lokking at a shortened life and more work
