All of these were made by members here. They are not in business to make motorcycles, (at least I dont think so, may be wrong on one or two counts)
These are made by regular people, and in some cases rival or surpass the machines made by you guys that are in business.

Theres no dick wagging here, there's just peopel who love their motorcycles, and love other peoples motorcycles.

I think any one of these people could compete in your biker build off, if they were given a crew to help realise their visions.
You build neat stuff. Carpy builds neat stuff. djfischer builds some neat stuff.
So do lots of other people.
Well said, sir. Well said.  8)

I was replying to djfischer as well. I'm not a fan of the viper fairings myself.
However, you made it fit rather well with your build. I wouldn't give someone a dig unless they did something like mounted a car windshield to their bike.
When i said we need to stop wagging dicks, I didn't mean just you.
No.

Looks like one, could be wrong.

That aside, I do think yours looks pretty good.

Again, this wasn't leveled at you, per se, El Cheapo. It's leveled at this competitive attitude that happens, that shouldn't. Theres few enough of us (but growing) that we should be working together, not against each other.
No.

What did the dyno say?  I've been wanting those #'s since the Homewrecker Saga began. ;D

That being said, I've wanted to do a buildoff with you for a while now- but time is my big downfall, and of course money is always slow to come by, but mostly time.  But this would be out of pure fun.  I have already found out that my bikes will always take critisizm on this site unless I make them conservative-so if this site where the judging panel, I would deffinately loose.  So what's the point?  I like a good competition, but these bikes take a ton of time and effort to build and all things must be lined up to do so.  I still plan on being ready to start my 750 build around Feb or so.  So, if you want to do a buildoff that will take about 4 months to complete, against a competetor that is sure to loose against this judging panel, for no real gains- then I'm your man! ;D ;D

Don't forget the #'s,
JP

I'm not a big fan of Carpys, but he does show that he has built more than 1 bike. Other people build 1 (one) bike and then think that the Discovery channel shoulld do a show on them so they can show the whole world how to put on a Generic fairing and a set of clubman bars on a bike and call it a "cafe".

Daniel

My bike is completely stock except for paint, fairing, and clubmans.  So far the talks with Hugh "The Chopper" King are going well. I'll either be going up against Paul Jaffe, or the Martin Bros.

You know I read your posts, but I think that's a bit harsh. I will say that it does seem that your 550SS build thread got out of hand, but from what I recall, you've only shown one bike build here. So how do you know your bikes will always take criticism?

And remember, criticism can be a good thing, especially if you're in this to make some money, which you are. Criticism doesn't have to be rude. I haven't been here very long, but it seems to be alot of the members here are a close knit family. Coming in with guns ablazing, so to speak, may have put alot of members on the back foot from the start, so that's why some criticism you get is worded the way they are. Doesn't mean it's right...

I'm totally not bashing you, so I hope you don't get that vibe. Just giving my perception.

FWIW, I don't think StevieMac, Andy Harrison or DME built conservative bikes and they've received unbelievable praise.

Next week I am going to build f%cking big wheels. People do thier JOB for acclaim or status in your book are idiots, you just might be one too. If you feel you should get a raise or some better position because of the job that you do or it's quality, then you to can KISS MY ASS. Like my bike building, you problably do not deserve it.

This is not a fair weather hobby.

Pretty funny tom......

I do my job for personal satisfaction.

I build bikes for the same reason. I can tell you truthfully I am my own worst critic. I have a harsher view of my finished projects than anyone here will ever have. I spot the smallest detail or flaw in my own work.

Don't need to comment on other peoples abilities or inabilities. Doesn't matter. Just matters what I do.

Good luck with the big wheels  ;D

To be fair, if your business IS building motorcycles, you better want some acclaim. Thats how people know to buy your stuff.

Depend what the accaim is for.

How bout if the acclaim is for having a big mouth? Kinda like OCC? Seems to be the only thing they are famous for.

Personally I'd rather have acclaim for building a first rate bike. In other words Quality product.

Do you think the consumer needs to be told in this sport that yours is better than so and so's?

I for one don't give two hoots how much someone talks up thier scooter here. If it works it works if it doesn't then I'd agree with tom. Its a huge paperweight.

Pretty pointless to scream mine is better. I for one can figure that out for myself.

The only kind of acclaim that matters in this arena is performance and aesthetic value.

El Cheapo too. He claims to have built 5 bikes but only shares "Home Wrecker" with us. Doesnt list the others on his web site either. Maybe next weeks "Big Wheeler" will make it on to his web site.

How about the Dyno results? Or is that just another spouting off of yours?
You claim to have built 'HW" for 4 bike shows but you never posted 1 picture of it in a show. I saw it on the trailer in an empty parking lot, but that was it.

Me, I build bike cause I want to. If they are the ugliest thing that others have ever set their eyes on, so be it. I build them for me and I enjoy doing what I am doing. That is all the acclaim that is needed.

I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing.
In order for a company to sell it's product, it must get the word about it's product out.
This is best accomplished by someone telling another person about said product, or showing it to them.
At that point, the person in question can make that 'seat of the pants' judgement call.
If they don't know about it, no judgment can be passed.
Acclaim comes from a person who has the product, and can make intelligent comparisons between said product and a similar one.
No.

Acclaim comes from a person who has the product, and can make intelligent comparisons between said product and a similar one.

A noun
1  acclaim, acclamation, plaudits, plaudit, eclat

enthusiastic approval; "the book met with modest acclaim"; "he acknowledged the plaudits of the crowd"; "they gave him more eclat than he really deserved"

B verb
 1  acclaim, hail, herald

praise vociferously; "The critics hailed the young pianist as a new Rubinstein"

Just so we all know what it means  :D ;D

A Product stands on its own merit. We can compare one product to another as well.

As my post originally said.........

What a bunch of idiots.

Your little dictionary quote did nothing to either discredit, or have much to do at all, really, with what I said...

If you are in business selling a product, you'd better hope that people speak well about your product. Otherwise you won't be in business too long.
I think that's self evident.

We don't need someone shouting about how much better their bike is than someone elses, but advertising is an important aspect of running a business.
Ford and Chevy and Dodge are constantly telling us how much better their products are than their competitors.
No.

Wasn't so much a response to your post.

However let me clarify......

Enthusiastic approval.......Comes from the customers. Not the manufacturer.

As you said.....self evident. Cept some folks always have to toot thier own horns.

Car manufacturers often tout thier brand as better than brand X....do you just believe them?

How bout if Ford said the following.....We build a better truck then Joe smith down in dearborn. Not only does Joe put together a poor product he overprices it too.

Is that advertizing or just smacking round poor Joe on the assembly line?

Hey this is a motorcycle forum. Last I checked it was started and maintained for people with a common love of Single Overhead Cam Hondas.

As many people here have said ...its a community. Sure aint a place for brand X to smear brand Y. You wanna advertize? Send money and I bet they put you in the ad space.

Do I know elcheapo or Carpy? Nope.

Do I think its appropriate to compare ones product to anothers? Sure.

Do I think its appropriate for one to belittle the other in an attempt to generate ACCLAIM? Hell no. Its not what this forum is for.

This forum has turned to #$%* with all this gripping.

About Carpy, I have met him and know him.  The guy is a complete bike builder.  What I mean is, he makes a living doing this and he is great at it.  If he wasn't great at it, he would not get $6000 + for a bike.  In my opinion, he should get that for a bike like that.  In fact, I am a business owner too and when you get good at what you do, your prices can go up.  Why, you ask?  Beacuase what you do and how well you do it sets you apart from the rest(considering you make aliving doing it).    When you do something like Carpy is doing for a living, you need to charge more.  Why?  because your time is valuable.  When you have so much work that you can't get to it all, you need to put value to the jobs you do.  Go Carpy G0!!!!! By the way, he is one of the nicest most humble guys I have met.  Cool accent too.  Carpy, keep up the great work.  If you ever need help in the shop shoot me an email.  Peace
