1975 cb550 oil strainer
« on: December 29, 2014, 01:12:18 PM »
Ok guys. I'm finishing up my rebuild and knowing a bit more than at my first oil change I inspected the oil strainer. I'm having trouble getting a clear idea of what should be part of the assembly but I should have a spring and oring where the main shaft from it connects right?

As it is,I have neither but do have a metal ring around it that doesn't seem to fit there and I can't find mention of. I'll try to attach pics but that never seems to work well from my phone. Thanks.

no o ring no clip, lose that metal ring, the sump holds it up and the little hose that feeds the counter shaft, that ring looks to be from the starter clutch needle assembly maybe?is it #10 in this picture?

Yeah.it's just really hard to tell from the drawings. For now I'm happy enough to know it doesn't go where it was. Thanks a lot!

It was literally right there where it is in the picture when I took off the oil pan. The PO obviously didn't trust Japanese engineering and added his own touches.
