New member Project
« on: January 01, 2015, 10:07:40 AM »
Hi all,

My son bought a '72 CB350f that ran but needed lots of attention. Since he has no real mechanical experience I'm helping him with this project. The bike was abused by previous owner evidently. He painted the wheels with rubber paint but didn't bother to cover anything else (what a mess). I plan on posting pics once I figure out how. My son basically wants to repaint the frame and tank, relocate electronics and install brat style seat. I'm excited about this project because My first bike was a CB400f. As a matter of disclosure, I haven't owned a bike for 30 years and although I'm a functional mechanic ( I rebuilt my '74 Triumph TR6 entirely), I know very little about these bikes. So..., the bike is now disassembled and Ive discovered the rear sprocket bolts the should be press fit into it are too small causing the sprocket to wobble on hub.

First question;
Can the correct size knurled bolts for this sprocket be obtain somewhere, or do I need to buy a new sprocket with bolts?
Second;
Does someone make a part to cap the existing front fork triple tree (after I remove the handle bars and speedo/tach?

Many more questions to come and any help is appreciated,

I plan on posting pics once I figure out how.

Regards,

Indy-72

Welcome, nice TR6! (My brother had a'69).  If you can work on that, CB's will be simple.

I don't see a part number for the studs on the fiche...

Are these the right size? (Email him). Kind of pricey, a used sprocket carrier may be the way to go.

Looks like the PO just wanted to cover up rust with that paint instead of fixing it. No telling what's underneath there. Gonna be a fun project though, good luck!

mrfish,

Actually, I was pleasantly surprised to find perfectly good Black rims underneath! :) This shuff comes off fairly easily, its just tedious to do. My son is almost done with them, he's working on them now.

Both wheels look good, what a relief. We just needed to take them off rims to clean properly.

They do look pretty good, not bad! That Plasti-dip paint is always fun to work with, peels right off no matter what.

Welcome. The TR6 is my favorite British sports car. They've gotten pretty pricey these days though, so I have a '72 MGB-GT

BankerDanny,

The TR6 sold for $4200.00 in '74, I paid $4200.00 for it in 1984. At that time I really wanted an Austin Healy but when I found this car it was in such good shape I went with it. I'm an Electrical Engineer but learned mechanics from owning this car over the years. I've been through just about every part in it.
